Villanelle #1 - Deny the Darkness

Jeff Mason
..

Fear not the hand of death on your last night;
New birth shall spring again from earth some day;
Deny the darkness falling past the light.

Far wiser men have known their end of flight;
Regretting words that they so longed to say:
Fear not the hand of death on your last night.

Believe that life is more than black and white;
That you might find an answer, this I pray:
Deny the darkness falling past the light.

Stand fast and never waver from your sight;
Keep hope within and leave your dread at bay;
Fear not the hand of death on your last night.

Make known the worth of your eternal plight;
Keep hunter from becoming hunted's prey;
Deny the darkness falling past the light.

Breathe deep and know that you've lived long and right;
And know that you no longer need to stay.
Fear not the hand of death on your last night;
Deny the darkness falling past the light.
