Denzel Washington Early Years, Education and Personal Life
Denzel Hayes Washington, Jr. was born on December 28, 1954 in Mt. Vernon, New York. When he came into the world, he had two wonderful parents. His Father, Reverend Denzel Washington, Sr. was an ordained Pentecostal minister and worked for the Water Department as well as S. Klein, which was a local department store. His mother, Lennis "Lynne", was a beauty parlor-owner and operator. Denzel Washington went to elementary school in Mt. Vernon and attended a Boys & Girls Club.
When he was 14 years old his parents divorced and he lost contact with his Father and started getting into some street fights. His mother decided to send him to boarding school at the Oakland Military Academy, which was a private preparatory school in New Windsor. In 1973, he went to Fordham University for a B.A. in Drama and Journalism and he worked as a camp counselor at a Boys Club and did several variety shows. He received a role in Eugene O'Neil's "The Emperor Jones" and a role in William Shakespeare's Othello. This is where he really fell in love with acting.
After graduating, he received a scholarship for San Francisco's American Conservatory Theatre and filmed his very first on screen role in the TV movie "Wilma". This is where he met his current wife, Pauletta Pearson and they were married in 1983. They have four children together. John David was born in 1984 and plays with the St. Louis Rams, Katia were born in 1987 and she is attending Yale University. Then they had twins, Olivia and Malcolm. Denzel Washington is a devout Christian and attends LA's West Angeles Church of God in Christ.
Dezel Washington's Career Years
Denzel Washington's made his very first film debut in the comedy film, "A Carbon Copy" in 1981. After some off-Broadway productions, including "A Soldier's Play" and some television movies, he played a starring role as Dr. Philip Chandler in the television series, "St Elsewhere" from 1982 until 1988.
He received five Oscar nominations for the film "Cry Freedom" in 1987 and won an Oscar for "Best Supporting Actor" and a Golden Globe Award for "Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture" for the film "Glory" in 1990. In 1990 he was in the films, "Heart Condition" and "Mo'Better Blues". It 1999 he won a Golden Globe Award for "Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture - Drama" for the film The Hurricane. In 2002, he won an Oscar Award for "Best Actor" in the film Training Day. Denzel Washington has been in an abundant amount of movies.
