Dermabrasion of Porokeratosis of Mibelli Areas

Laura Lively
Dermabrasion was one of the treatments I tried with my doctor on my Porokeratosis of Mibelli . And it did improve the look of my areas. It gave me a lot of self love I never had before.Being a teen girl at the time it did help me.

Dermabrasion is a skin resurfacing technique that is normally and most often used on facial scarring from acne, chicken pox or an accident or in my case disease. People are now also using this possible treatment on deep facial lines and wrinkles, sun damaged areas/pigmentation disorders and some types of skin lesions. I have been very lucky so far that I have not had any of my spots or scars on my face. Do I personally advise to try this route? NO. At least not for my skin disease.

Dermabrasion is like sanding off a part of your skin. Your flesh is left raw and looks like hamburger. They had to go really deep on me. The band-aides I had to soak off to remove and change them. Opening them back up and well it wasn't fun in the least. Did the scars heal into normal scars that were white and not these lesions? Yes for a time. But in the long run this has made them able to grow in a larger area. The resulting scar the dermabrasion left behind is a wounded area and these lesions grow faster on scarred flesh. So the lesion I had before is now, now on my leg where they grow the fastest, the lesions are larger in size and very different in shape to what they were. Derabrasion should not be used on this type of skin issue and I hope any one with the skin problem please please take it from first hand from me dermabrasion does not work. It will last a time then you will start to see the after math is worse than the scar you had at first. This disease takes a weakened area and that is what dermabrasion does.

I really came out of my shell once it was done no kidding there. I went crazy. I felt beautiful. Growing up I was picked on and called ugly. I felt ugly. Skinny, tiny and a redhead with spots. Now I was well busty, clearer skin and 5'1 not to tiny. People took notice and I loved it. I enjoyed being free of my scars. They were white now I had a few spots still but yeah most of me was free of them. I was enjoying life.

The Equipment used is a surgical power-driven hand held tool looks a lot like a dentist's drill. They will of course freeze you first. This was painful in it's self as numerous needles went into my leg and arm. Sometimes directly into a nerve. Mean while you have to hold still. May Doctor was impressed by how well I took it. They put an abrasive end on it which reminds me of the stone like item you put on the end of a wood working tool or metal work. They sand your skin off. The pieces are a metal wheel, diamond fraise and even a wire brush. Sounds like a hardware tool to me. Your doctor will move the spinning wheel gently over the surface of the area causing the top most layers of the skin to be worn away, sanded off. Road rash people.

For my skin problem it was not the way to go but we could not have know that for some time. Till the scars started to grow back larger. I do not fault my Doctor in the least because sadly I am one of thee few cases up here and with such a bad case.

Please if you have this same rare skin disease please do not try this treatment. in the end it does more damage to your skin.
