Houses and offices can benefit from the increasing popularity of floating bamboo flooring, because bamboo is categorized as a grass and grows very quickly so this increased demand is easily catered for. Its smooth polished texture feels good underfoot and there is the benefit of a wealth of alternatives regarding colors, styles and designs. This enables the installer to complement the décor of any room and color scheme. The different types available include natural bamboo flooring, strand woven bamboo flooring, engineered bamboo flooring and floating bamboo flooring.
Installation is a simple process due to the fact that it is not fixed to a sub floor in any way, although the individual planks are fixed to one another by means of glue or by an interlocking system. A layer of foam is laid on the sub floor that can be of concrete, wood or tile, before the bamboo is put in place; the middle layer, as well as foam, can be of cork or rubber, whatever is most convenient for the installer.
The fact that it is not fixed in any way to a sub floor enables the bamboo to expand and contract due to changing weather conditions and avoid any buckling or bending in places as it would if randomly fixed. To enable this process to take place, it is advisable to leave a small gap all round the finished floor. Its polished finish enhances its moisture resistant qualities and it can remain durable for many years. Its popularity is enhanced by the fact that it is easily installed and there is no need for professional help.
If budget is a problem, unfinished bamboo can be purchased and the task of treating can be carried out by the installer at their convenience. The disadvantage of taking this option is that repairs may be required at a later date and they could become costly so this could be a false economy. However, there is no doubt that by installing floating bamboo flooring, it can enhance the look of a home and with its ease of installation, be a task that takes very little time.
