Thanksgiving is the one monumental day each year where we get to indulge our inner gluttons under the guise of gratitude. On go the elastic waist trousers and in go the calories. And since there is no candy to distribute or presents to wrap, dinner hosts often exercise their aesthetic muscles in the form of masterful dinner presentation.
That being said, entertainers with any wits about them know it's insane to spend gobs of money on decor especially when the cost of the Thanksgiving meal could mean skipping a mortgage payment. Here are a few ways to steal some high end Thanksgiving looks for a fraction of the designer price.
Turkey Napkin Rings
You could spend $40 on these Cloisonné Turkey Napkin Rings from Williams-Sonoma. (Say what? Cloisonné , it's a fancy technique used to enamel or bejewel metalware.) They're beautifully crafted with warm seasonal colors, but so are these ones from Dillard's. Their Noble Excellence Turkey Napkin Rings are sold individually, unlike the W-S four pack, and they're a mere $7 each. If four floats your boat you're only paying $28 for the Dillard's version. I'll gobble to that.
Pilgrim Hats
The Kids' Table is either the hottest property on the Thanksgiving market or it's the Siberia of misfit miscreants. Either way, it's nice to recognize the kiddos by presenting them with these super cute pilgrim hats. The Pottery Barn Kids version is made of gray felt and has an adjustable headband to accommodate a multitude of melons. It will run you $10 per head. Alternatively, you could order a 12 pack of black pilgrim hats for $12.99 from OrientalTrading.com. They're also made of felt and have a built-in adjustable headband.
Decorative Garland
For $49 you can buy the Pottery Barn Leaf Garland in rich fall hues to decorate your mantle or entryway or banister. It's 9 feet long and features an assortment of different felt leaves. Or you could shop NoelsPaperie on Etsy and snag her 6 foot long Fall Garland with Acorns and Pumpkins for a whopping $9. Sure, it's shorter than the PB garland but the beauty of Etsy is most artisans are willing to modify just about anything to suit your needs.
