Designing a Teen Boy's Bedroom

Ohio22
Having been a teen boy once, I have seen firsthand many different designs for teen boy's bedrooms. Below I have compiled my favorites and details on how you can recreate them in your teen's bedroom.

Outer Space

This is a fairly simple yet appealing design. Some things you can do for it are paints the room black, glue glow in the dark stars to the ceiling, hang a planet mobile from the ceiling, and paint any additional items that belong in space such as spaceships or comets. The glow in the dark stars can be found at your local craft store and the planet mobile can be found at a store featuring science items such as a science museum gift shop. If you are not a very skilled artist you can buy stencils at a craft shop for the painting details.

Sports

A sports design leaves many different possibilities. You could simply paint the walls and tack up some sports posters or you could go all out. One thing you can do is paint the walls like a sports stadium. For example, if you were painting a baseball stadium one wall could be the outfield wall, two walls the sides of the stadium and the last wall the main part of the stadium. A possibly simpler sports design is to make the room look like a locker room. Paint the walls any color and then build and paint some wooden "lockers." Hang some replica jerseys up in a few of the lockers and the rest can be used as a place to store all of the occupant's clothes.

Music

Most teens love music so why not design their room based on music? Paint their walls any color you like. Then buy several posters of music artists that your teen likes and tack them up around the walls. Buy black CDs and glue them around the top of the room to make a border. You can also paint musical notes or instruments on the walls or ceiling. Both the posters and blank CDs can likely be found at a local department store, or go to a store specializing in music.

Personal Artwork

Is your teen a talented painter? Paint the walls a solid color and then allow them to paint a mural of anything they like. Your teen will likely enjoy waking up to their artwork every morning. When they are old enough to move out you will then have something to remember them by or you can easily paint over it.

Whatever you choose, make sure you give your teen plenty of say in it since they will be spending the most time in the room. Good luck and happy designing!
