If that is also your problem, Desktility is probably your best solution. It does not only help you to save and recover your favorite desktop but also help you to capture desktop image and to use hotkey effectively. Desktility is compatible with all versions of Windows except for Windows Vista. It is only about 4.75 MB of your system resource. Here are three main functions of Desktility:
1. Save and Recover Icon on the Desktop:
At first, you have to take your time to organize icons on your desktop to your ideal arrangement. Then, activate Desktility (it is only on the system tray). In the main window of the program, go to "Desktop Icons" tab and click "Save Icon Positions". You can save as many type of desktop position as you want. For example, desktop position for work contains only Microsoft Office icons; desktop position for entertaining contains all game icons; desktop position for internet surfing contains Firefox, Internet Explorer, Internet Download Manager.... icons. Now, you can mess up the icons on your desktop as much as you want. Simply go to "Restore Icon Positions" to recover the icon positions on the desktop again.
2. Screen Capture:
In the "Screensnaps" tab, the program provides three different modes to capture the images: Screen (capture the whole screen), Selection (capture only selected region) and Window (capture only the window of running application). In "Send to" section, you can click the drop-down button and choose where you want to send your image. The options are File (save as an image file), Email (send to email through Outlook Express), Clipboard (save to clipboard to paste to another application) and Printer (print the captured image). You are also allowed to choose what file type you want to save the image as. Go to "File" > "File Options". You should set up Name, File Type (*.jpg, *.tif, *.bmp, *.png or *.gif) and Save (locate where you want to save the file, the default location is right on your desktop).
3. Using Hotkeys to Control Some Features:
Go to "Hot Keys" tab. You will find many features that you can control by hotkeys like Windows to Clipboard (capture screen and save to clipboard), Screen to Email (capture screen and send it to email), Selection to Printer (send image file to printer to print), Volume up, Volume down. If you want to change any hotkey, simply click "Change" in "Hot Key Configuration" section. The "Set Hot Key" dialog will appear. You only have to type in the key you want and click "OK".
Desktility would be a great idea to those who have an unorganized computer desktop. It also helps user to capture screen image and to use hotkeys. You can download the program here.
