Desperate Housewives Season Finale 2010 Has Departures, Comebacks

Robert Dougherty
The Desperate Housewives season finale 2010 had a simple and not so simple task. The 2010 Desperate Housewives season finale, like the five others before it, had to resolve a season-long mystery and lay the groundwork for next year's action. Previous cliffhangers have resolved murders, jumped into the future, and left fans waiting at the alter. For this year, some more big, shocking events were promised, and so was a 'series altering' decision by Susan. The Desperate Housewives season finale did resolve a lot of things while leaving a lot of new doors open for season seven.

Warning: Spoilers follow.

Heading into the season six ending, there were two killers on the loose, a baby on the verge of being delivered, and the possibility of a Wisteria Lane family having to move out. The two major new season six storylines, involving the Fairview Strangler and Drea De Matto's divisive Angie Bolen, had two very different endings. One plotline ended with a confession, and the other ended with a final big bang.

As for the regulars, the Desperate Housewives season finale 2010 had Susan and Mike say "I Guess This Is Goodbye." But although they had to leave Wisteria Lane, they won't be absent from any neighborhood drama for long. For one thing, the new revelation of a Wisteria Lane child being switched at birth could involve them. For another, having former villain Paul Young move into their house will have to impact them somehow.

The Desperate Housewives season finale 2010 brought an end to an often troubling year for the gang. Along with the controversial new plots and characters, the season also had Dana Delany's Katherine sink to new lows before she left and put the other regulars through questionable storylines. Often, there was more drama surrounding former cast member Nicolette Sheridan, and her accusations against Marc Cherry, than there was about the show itself.

Usually, when the program has an off year, like in season two, it bounces back eventually. The Desperate Housewives season finale 2010 promised that season seven would try to bounce back with new mysteries, and old 'friends.' Mark Moses will be back full time as Paul Young next year, while fans anticipate that Felicia Tilman might come back as well.

After a year of mysteries about new characters that followers couldn't get behind, the Desperate Housewives season finale 2010 promises to put established figures in the spotlight again. In addition, the makeup of at least one Wisteria Lane family may not be the same again soon.

Last year, audiences spent all summer asking who was down the aisle with Mike. This year, the Desperate Housewives season finale 2010 doesn't have that kind of cliffhanger as big returns and new family secrets will have to get fans by until fall.
