Due to the new rule that the records of each team, the Cavs got the #2 seed on the count of having a better record than the 2 division leaders, The 2005-06 NBA Champion Miami Heat, and the Toronto Raptors. The reason for that was due to last season with the Mavericks and Spurs meeting in the 2nd round of the Western Conference Semi-Finals even they both had the 2 best records in the Western Conference. Because the Mavericks had a better record then the division winners, it was thought maybe for the best match ups, if the wild card has a better record than a division leader of another division, then that means by virtue the wild card would receive a higher seed. Had that been effect, perhaps that Playoff year would have been different but the world may never know.
The team itself had a really good playoff run. They were lead by the star with the hype since he came to the NBA LeBron James but it wasn't just him that got the team to go as far as they had done. Good coaching will do that no questions asked. Any team that goes on to win the NBA Finals or any major sports title for that matter has to have good coaching to achieve such a feat. It's no secret that to get to the finals, it's a long and bumpy road. Another factor is the willingness of the owners of the organization has to really get behind the franchise and put the time and money into making it into a championship-caliber team. This Cavaliers franchise in my own opinion has the serious potential to be a top contender for the NBA Title for years assuming that the team is kept in tact and the owners continue to want have this serious commitment to making the team excellent.
To better understand how they did in the playoffs, they swept the Washington Wizards 4-0 and went to the next round waiting to see whom would they play in the next round. The next round saw them play against the New Jersey Nets. They went on to win the series 4-2 with the efforts of the entire Cavs team and then the final stage before the finals would be a rematch from last years Eastern Conference Semi-Final round against the Detroit Pistons. Last season, the Cavs pushed them to the limit but came up short 4-3 and this game was redemption for them. Cleveland would take the series 4-2 after being down 2-0 to Detroit. That series however proved that Cleveland could compete with anyone in that Conference and reached the highest moment of the city. They went to the finals in hopes of bringing Cleveland their 1st NBA Title.
The Spurs had experience in the NBA Finals due to winning it 3 times before this time. The series as a whole really showed one thing, the Cavs didn't have the experience against a team like the Spurs for the finals. The other thing it showed was that Cleveland was actually competitive and didn't get blown away in the losses. The most amount of points they lost by was 9 points and that was in the 1st 2 games. The last 2 at home were really close, Game 3 was by 3 and then the last game was by 1. Cleveland Cavaliers will need to regroup and work on what they need to do to improve and get the championship. The team as a whole can get to the finals but next will come if they can be conditioned enough to win it all. It will come down to winning the road games and continuing to play good basketball and this team will be back next season.
