Despite Recent Mishaps, Beyoncé Knowles is Still a Mega Superstar

Dr. Jamie Yvette
Though she hasn't had the best of luck during her current tour, "The Beyoncé Experience," Beyoncé Giselle Knowles is still a mega superstar. This talented diva is known and admired around the world and probably even in outer space (I'm just wondering if her next tour will include Mars and other major planets throughout the universe).

Her impressive list of achievements would make one think that she was born long before the early 1980's. Allow me to highlight just a few - in case you didn't already know:

1. She was the lead singer of the female singing group, Destiny's Child, which became the best-selling female singing group in history, responsible for hit songs such as "Bills Bills Bills," "Survivor," and "Independent Women."

2. To date, she has earned 10 Grammy Awards, 7 of them as a solo artist.

3. She was crowned "Songwriter of the Year" in 2001 by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), becoming the first African-American woman and second woman ever to receive this honor.

4. Her sense of humor led her to coin the term "Bootylicious," which became the title of a hit Destiny's Child song and was subsequently added to the Oxford English Dictionary online. "Bootylicious" makes reference to a curvaceous female (whose gluteus maximus is well above the poverty level).

5. She is a budding actress, having starred in numerous movies, including Carmen: A Hip Hopera (2001), Austin Powers in Goldmember, (2002), The Fighting Temptations (2003), The Pink Panther (2006), and Dreamgirls (2006). Dreamgirls raked in several awards, including three Golden Globe Awards and two Oscars in 2007.

6. She launched the "House of Deréon" with her fashion designer mother, Tina Knowles. The House of Deréon is an upscale fashion line inspired by three generations of women dating back to Knowles's maternal grandmother, Agnéz Deréon.

7. She boasts a number of endorsements, including Pepsi, Wal-Mart, Tommy Hilfiger fragrances (True Star and True Star Gold) and Emporio Armani Diamonds.

8. She recently recorded Irreemplazable, an 8-track EP consisting of Spanish versions of songs from her hit album, B'Day

And the list goes on...

Lately, however, Beyoncé has had her share of negative publicity surrounding two embarrassing incidents that occurred during her tour, "The Beyoncé Experience." In July of 2007, she fell down 12 stairs during a high-energy concert performance in Orlando, Florida. Though captured on video and posted on the Internet, Ms. Knowles's "fall from grace" stopped neither her performance that night nor her tour.

Unfortunately, she went on to have another unnerving experience during a performance in Toronto, Canada on August 21, 2007 that led to her top flying up and briefly exposing her cleavage. Although her spokesperson recently stated that the performer was in fact wearing a flesh-colored bra, this latest mishap is one of the most talked-about incidents in cyberspace and on television these days.

Nevertheless, it is without a doubt that Beyoncé will bounce back - literally, if she keeps wowing the crowd with her amazing dance moves as she has done in the past - and continue carving out her legacy as one of the greatest performers of all time.

She is definitely one of the most talented and beautiful women in the entertainment business. The only bad thing I see is aligning herself with Wal-Mart, something which in the scheme of things, I'd rather have my eyes torn out by ravens than do.

Absolutely Deborah. She gets "kudos" for remaining poised and moving right along.

Thanks Mommy. I think you're right. For everyone who has said something bad about her behind these incidents, there have been twice as many people who have applauded her for the grace and poise she has exhibited through it all.
