While researching Destin boat rentals, it is pretty easy to see that this is a popular activity for the area, and there are plenty of places to choose from. There are about five or six places that offer pontoon boat rentals, two of these also have center console fishing boats, and one has both center consoles and power boats. We decided to rent from Destin Vacation Boat Rentals, the rental place that has pontoons, center-consoles, and power boats.
When my husband called to make our reservation, he was immediately impressed with the knowledge the employee possessed about the boats and the area. He was able to answer all of our questions, was courteous and friendly, and even helped us to decide where to go and what to do on the water. He also set us up with a fishing package so my husband and sons could do some fishing while we were there without having the hassle of bringing our own gear.
We arrived at their office early in the morning. Parking is located in front of their key lime green office building along Highway 98. To be honest, it doesn't look like much from the outside. But stepping inside, you will see a complete office set-up and a to-die-for view of the Destin harbor over the palm trees. The office is stocked with all sorts of equipment, from life jackets to wake boards and tubes to fishing rods and reels. Our credit card was rung up on their office computer, and then we were escorted down a flight of stairs to the boats.
Most places in Destin will say they have new boats, or "newer" boats, or the best boats. We have found that not to be the case. The boat we rented from Destin Vacation Boat Rentals was a 2009 model and it might as well have said "luxury" all over it. It was a gorgeous boat. Very plush and comfortable, it was easy to see where this business spent their money: on their boats!
We were given a short instruction course on driving the boat, and we were off! What a beautiful day. We spent the day fishing, cruising, and hanging out at one of Destin's most popular spots: Crab Island. We pulled up alongside many other rental pontoons that were not nearly as nice as ours, and knew from our research that those people paid much more than we did. For lunch, we pulled right up to Harbor Docks and dined overlooking the harbor, then were able to just hop back on the boat and go.
Most rental places give you eight hours on a full day rental. We got our rental boat from 8:00 am to 6:30 pm. What a value! When we returned the boat, we were tired and happy and knew that we had made the best decision. We will definitely use them again, and hope others will too.
