Destination Cape Cod Summer Vacation

Bill Hanks
The third annual Quahog Day is set for June 21 at 3 pm. However, Cape Cod has a lot more to offer than just that particular celebration. This article provides some great suggestions on vacationing in Cape Cod during the Summer season.

What To Do
Cape Cod offers great beaches during the Summer. The Cape has over 559 miles of coastline. There are no fewer than 58 beach locations. The ocean provides great boating, fishing and even whale watching. There are also numerous hiking, walking and biking trails. If you enjoy golf, they have 20 golf courses.

There are also special areas of interest. There is Woods Hole and Martha's Vineyard. You could spend a week alone at either one of these destinations.

Shopping
Cape Cod has over 2400 shops. Historic Route 6A is often referred to as the antique trail. The Smithsonian Magazine calls it the best place in America for antique shopping. The Mashpee Commons has everything from entertainment, restaurants and specialty shops.

Where To Stay
Hotels and Motels can be very expensive during this time of the year. It is best to make reservations as early as possible. However, if you can't, you still might be able to find a deal and get 10 to 20 percent off your stay. There are three ways to do this. You can get a hot deal, a vacation package or a last minute deal. Deals and packages differ from place to place. Prices for a room go for about $125 a night on weekdays and begin at $199 a night on the weekends. The Inn at Cape Cod (1-508-375-0590) and the High Point Inn (888-362-4441) usually have some type of savings available. The Winstead Inn and Beach Resort (508-432-4444) has a $150 walk in rate is you mention their Cape Cod Chamber Special.

Where to Dine
Cape Cod has a diverse mixture of restaurants. However, when you go to Cape Cod, you are looking for great sea food. Old fashion clambakes and seafood shanties steal your heart. Captain Elmer's is excellent for family dining. The Mattakeese Wharf Waterfront Restaurant is located with a great ocean view. Great food and beautiful sunsets are the order of the day. The Roadhouse has been voted the best in fine dining and the best piano bar in the area. This is ideal for parents that would like to get away from the kids.

Cape Cod has a great weather climate in the Summer. Warm days and cool nights make for an excellent vacation atmosphere. If you haven't been to Cape Cod, you are missing out on one of Americas vacation jewels. Check it out.
