Colorado is one of the only states that surrounds the Rocky Mountains, the Colorado Plateau, and the Great Plains. It is also the 38th state, nicknamed the Centennial State. Like many other states in America, Colorado has a rich and inviting history that any traveler should take a few minutes to enjoy, including its name. Spanish explorers named Colorado the Rio Colorado, meaning the red color, but the name was actually derived from the Colorado River.
1. Colorado River. If you are going to travel to Colorado, than one of your first stops should be the Colorado River. Named after this river, the Colorado River will take you from Grand Lake to the State Bridge. Along the way, explore the byways for a scenic and educational tour.
2. Rocky Mountains. No vacation would be the same without a visit to the Rocky Mountains. Centered in the middle of the state, the Rocky Mountains offers tourist not only a magnificent view, but also a chance to go camping, hiking, and a little historical site seeing.
3. Pikes Peak. Pikes Peak is a great spot to visit with your kids, because of its rich heritage. Originally named by the pioneers, Pikes Peaks lies just west of Colorado Springs. The looming mountain is considered to be the prettiest in all of the state.
4. Durango. Explore the wild west in the town of Durango as you step back into town. Durango offers visitors a chance to visit historical shops, fine restaurants, and beautiful sites.
Mesa Verde National Park is one of these sites, features ruins homes and villages originally built by the Pueblo people. The park is also known for its cliff dwellings, including Cliff Palace.
While there, you can learn more about the Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad and the ancient Pueblo people.
5. Denver Museum of Nature and Science. All children love dinosaurs, and the Denver Museum of Nature and Science will give you and your family a chance to learn and discover more about these magnificent creatures.
However, Dinosaurs are not the only attractions to this museum. Space, rocks, animals, and so much more await you!

Post a CommentI've visited Colorado a few times to see some of my husband's family. It's breathtakingly beautiful and so nice to get away from the California heat whenever we go.
