The second to the smallest state, Delaware is made up of only three counties with more than 60% of the residents residing in New Castle county. However, even though Delaware is small, it is the first state .
Being the first of the 13 colonies states, Delaware contains a world of history as well as attractions.
1) Nassau Valley Vineyards. For a relaxing time, you should stop by the Nassau Valley Vineyards. The vineyard was founded in 1987, and was the first to exist in Delaware.
Prior to the Vineyards opening, the First"state had laws prohibiting wineries on farms. It was not until Peg Raley took a stand against the laws. Peg lobbied the Delaware General Assembly, as well as, drafted legislations. Finally, in 1991, the law was passed allowing Peg and her father, Bob, to create the first vineyard.
Currently, the vineyard is operational all year round, except for holidays. Guess can come by for wine tasting and self-guided tours around the farm.
The farm also offers guided tours to those groups of 15 or more. Included in the guided tour are free etched crystal tasting glass.
The vineyard also has specialty tasting and educational seminars. Unlike many vineyards, the Nassau Valley Vineyard boasts to having the most unique tour in North America.
Children are also welcome to come to vineyard, but you must be 21 years or older to buy or taste the wine.
2) White Clay Creek State Park. White Clay Creek State Park is referred to as a "relaxing oasis" with lush parks and sparkling streams. It is easy to relax and unwind at this park, and they offer outdoor activities.
Some of the outdoor activities include scenic trails for hikers and bikers, fishing, bird watching, disc golf, and public programs hosted by the Nature Center.
Families can also enjoy a peaceful picnic area and, occasionally, an evening concert.
3) Three Little Bakers Dinner Theater. Spend a relaxing evening with your family enjoy some of the greatest Broadway shows at the Three Little Bakers Dinner Theater. This dinner theater offers a fine buffet and deserts while their guest enjoy the shows, including special celebrity appearances.
4) Winterthur Museum. The Winterthur Museum was founded by Henry Francis du Pont, and is pronounced winter-tour. This museum is the only museum where you can learn about the duPont family , as well as, explore American decorative arts.The garden hosted at the Winterthur Museum is considered the best in the country,featuring 60-acres of nature beauty. The museum also houses a research library that is used by scholars all around the world.
5) Cape Henlopen State Park. Cape Henlopen State Park is not your traditional park. Nestled on beautiful beaches, visitors can enjoy a relaxing time swimming in the ocean or sunbathing on the beach.Thepark also features a pavilion for those that wishes to have a picnic, 18-hole disc golf course and basketball courts. In the winter time,hunting is permitted.The park also has the Kite Festival and Halloween Fantasy Trail,both family favorites. Besides these two events, the park offers a variety of different types of recreational programs and trails for hikers or bikers.
