Destination Guide: Puerto Rico Beaches

Puerto Rico Beaches Are Some of the World's Best

William DuBose
The tourist experience in Puerto Rico can be described as excellent for a number of reasons. First of all, the dining is excellent and the resorts are some of the best in the world. As an American holding, the folks there are extremely ready to see Americans come to the country and spend their dollars there. The water sports and night spots are also very distinctive. Above all of that, though, Puerto Rico is known for its role as a leader in beaches. The beaches there beat the pants off of some of the other beaches in the Caribbean, that are characterized by rocky coves and ugly sand. On Puerto Rico, it is their calling card and they take great lengths to protect the beaches.

There are many great beaches in which travelers can find refuge from their weary travels. Look first the new and upcoming beach that is known as Ocean Park Beach. This beach is certainly one for the singles in your group and serves as a place to mingle during the day. Here, folks often get numbers and make contacts for the nighttime, which is when Puerto Rico becomes the most fun. The beach is full of people who are willing to look and others who are worth looking at. Because it has a vast expanse of beachfront and water that is right for swimming, it serves as the young hub for the under-30 crowd traveling to Puerto Rico.

Luqiullo Beach is located only thirty miles from the capital city of San Juan and is a different beach from Ocean Park. Not only is it different in location, it varies in the type of person that frequents the spot. While Ocean Park is built for the single tourist, Luqiullo Beach is one more geared towards families and people looking for a more secluded and tame atmosphere. Here, you will find some of the clearest waters in all of Puerto Rico and it will be a truly cultural experience. Because it is more geared for older folks, this is less of a tourist beach. If you are looking to mingle with locals and experience Puerto Rico at its purest, head to this spot.

Other beaches, like the Playa de Ponce and Hyatt Beaches have something to offer as well. No matter where you go in Puerto Rico, you are sure to find white sand and clear water. The people are sure to be friendly and the sun seems like it never stops shining. A quick or extended trip to the beach is a must for all tourists and travelers. After all, it is the island's calling card.
