Antigua is a Great Place to Go

William DuBose
You have heard the Beach Boys sing about it, now it is time to experience the island for yours. Antigua is a gem in the Caribbean. It is a playground for travelers that want to experience the beach at its finest without all the hustle and bustle of a normal tourist hotspot. Maybe the Beach Boys wrote a song about this tiny gem of an island because the beaches there are perfect. As the staple of the country, the beaches of Antigua are as white as a pearl and the water is often clear enough to see through. This affords travelers the opportunity to enjoy one of the world's most gorgeous places. People from the island like to brag about the fact that Antigua has water that is infested with wonderful coral reefs, that protect the island's beaches. There, you will find reason to stay for a long time and in some cases, you will never want to leave.

Antigua is one of the areas that makes up the independent nation of Antigua and Barbuda. Although they are independent from British rule, the customs there are still largely British. Because of this, they are very open to travelers and their customs. Americans traveling to the island will not find it difficult to catch up with what is going on. The country has undergone a transition in recent years. While it used to be a largely poor sugar-farming nation that could barely support itself, it is now a booming tourist hotspot. Tourism the top export of Antigua and they are always happy to entertain new customers.

Most of the best restaurants, hotels, and things to do lie in the north part of the country, above the capital of St. John's. The city of St. John's is a must see place if you travel to Antigua. There, you will find history that is unmatched throughout the Caribbean. As mentioned before, the strong British influence is seen clearly in the structure of the buildings and the historical monuments. The St. John's Cathedral is the primary attraction of the city, holding the attention of travelers for hours.

Indian Town is one of the more popular places to visit, as well. On the northernmost tip of the island, it sits as the best national park. There, nature lovers will be able to take in the wildlife and beautiful terrain of the island, while other folks can enjoy the sights and sounds.

The island of Antigua is a gem in the Caribbean. It matches history with beautiful beach area. While the nightlife might not be as great as in other spots in the Caribbean, it is a better place to vacation with your family. In Antigua, the people are very friendly and they love travelers. After all, without folks coming to the island, they would not stand a chance for economic survival.
