Destination Guide: Travel to Barbados

Barbados is Becoming More Popular for Tourists

William DuBose
Barbados is like most islands in the Caribbean in that it provides a few of the essentials to the informed traveler. First and foremost, tourists generally find that this is an island that is welcoming to travelers. They do not only want you in their country, they welcome folks into the borders with open arms. Tourism, in a sense, is what keeps Barbados a thriving nation. The small island country has what most of these islands have. The beaches are beautiful in Barbados and most of all; they are all open to the public. Do not worry that beautiful multi-million dollar houses line the beachfront. Those beaches are there for the masses and specifically, they are there to accommodate the traveler who knows exactly what he wants.

The island's west coast has the most popular beaches. There tourists will find beautiful white sand and crystal clear water. The beachfront is long and inviting and people will not feel crowded in the least bit. On this coast, folks will find that it is less busy than on the east coast. The pace of life is a little bit slower and people seem to be enjoying themselves. That calmness is shared by the water itself, which seems to sit like a sheet of glass. One of the best beaches on the west coast of the island is Paynes Bay. This is a very famous beach that is a must-see for tourists who have water sports such as snorkeling and scuba diving in mind.

One of the interesting things about the beaches at Barbados is the fact that many of the beachfront resorts offer convenient services to their guests even when they lie on the beach. You can order drinks or food and the hotel staff will prepare it and bring it out to you. This enables visitors to enjoy their time on the beach without having to be interrupted by the necessity of food.

In addition to the beaches, tourists will find great options for golf on the island of Barbados. While golf is not huge in the Caribbean islands, it is on Barbados. Staying on the west coast, the Tom Fazio designed course at Sandy Lane Hotel is one of the region's finest courses. The green fees are a little steep, but the views and design of the course make it well worth the price.

The nightlife in Barbados is lively, as well. Aimed at a little bit older crowd, the bars and clubs are always packed. They feature live music and there are many great beach bars that the locals love to hang out at.

Whether you seek to golf or lie on the beach, Barbados is a great place to visit. It is a little bit different from the other Caribbean nations, but retains that island feel that travelers love. The beaches are great and the country embraces its visitors.
