my first airplane trip.
Hustle at the terminal,
all alone, but carrying my little one,
with a nervous biting lip.
An airplane destined for the comforts of what I knew as home,
to hug my mom, sister, and brothers, to enjoy the holiday.
Over mountains and buildings so far above the ground.
My little girl squirms pushes and kicks, belly all a'flutter.
Reaching an altitude where all that is seen are clouds,
the world just seems to slip away,
to where my heart is bound.
Shadows of the earth below, blues and green and brown.
First stop is the next boarding flight, my ears ringing, looking for my bag.
Confused mind only to find, my luggage would meet me there.
Taking a seat bound for the skies, rubbing my tummy gently, smiling.
Anticipation, happy tears falling quietly,
then hoping I don't have jet lag.
The last plane, a small one.
One seat aligns each side.
Feeling every gust of wind,
the pilot straight out in front of me,
smiling, greeting guide.
Winter snow covers the land,
and icy rains falling, crystal drops.
A tiny terminal, looks like a post office,
I'm the only one departing, as my flight stops.
My big sister, my younger brother peering from a window,
tears fill my eyes at their sight,
smiling, waving, excited to see me.
I want to run, get there as fast as I can,
thankful to arrive safely from my flight.
Hugs and kisses they greet in open arms,
for the drive to my mother's place,
so tired, needing sleep, but forcing my eyes to stay open,
to see my mom's happy face.
Rubbing my belly as though I were a Buddha,
so much love going 'round.
My flight, my family,
destination: happiness bound.

Post a CommentVery sweet. It reminds me of a similar trip at a similar point in my pregnancy. Except I threw up walking out of the plane. :)
Joyful family reunions-lovely poem.
Oh, how sweet. There's nothing like reuniting with family. =)
Jesus, this one 'bout made me cry (which doesn't often happen lest I am reading something about critters). Most excellent work, and you are truly talented!
I can feel the warmth! :)
