Destination Travel: New York, NY- a Guide for Entertainment in the Big Apple
My First Trip to New York and the Places You Should See!
FIRST SIGHTS TO SEE AND THE NECESSITY OF GOOD SHOES!
Our first stop in the city was 34th street in front of Macy's. Macy's is huge! I took a quick picture but didn't stop to shop. A New Yorker friend of mine told me that I needed to buy a pretzel from a street vendor once I arrived in NY so that was my second purchase. My first purchase was a pair of shoes. You need good walking shoes in NY. I thought my sandals would be fine but realized they would be an issue just by walking from the car to the subway. So I bought shoes. A pair of Air Walks for $16. Then I bought a pretzel. It was really good.
HEAD TO TIME SQUARE!
Next, we walked up to Time Square. You can tell just by looking at Time Square why New York, NY is the art's and entertainment hubbub of the U.S. There are signs everywhere. The song Signs by Tesla kept popping into my head as we walked passed it all. There was a Volkswagen commercial being shot right in Time Square and that was really exciting to see. There looked like there was televisions everywhere and all had commercials playing. One of my favorite commercials was on the M&M World building. It showed an M&M dressed up as Lady Liberty.
A WALK IN THE CITY!
Then we walked over toMadame Tussaud's. We were not going in but I wanted to know where it was for my next trip to NY. You see, I'm already planning another trip. Madame Tussaud's looks like it could be an all day experience. Johnny Depp's wax lookalike was outside for people to take pictures with. I jumped at that opportunity. Then we went to see Ripley's Believe it or Not! and I decided that needs to be on my next trip also. I really want to go into Ripley's Odditorium.
MORE SIGHTS IN NEW YORK TO SEE!
After seeing places like B.B. King's House of Blues, Circle in the Square theater, The Dave Letterman Show, and The Rainbow Room we headed to Rockefeller Center. It looks much bigger on TV and it is probably really beautiful in the winter with the giant tree and an ice rink. However, to me it was small but what was awesome was the flags of every country placed around the area.
RIDE THE SUBWAY!
Then we hopped on the subway again. Here I am going to go off on a bit of a tangent. The subway has a stigma attached to it. Don't make eye contact, don't talk to strangers and don't smile. I say Pfft!Smile at people! They do smile back and I don't think New Yorkers like have the stigma of the subway attached to them. Riding the subway was an awesome experience!
GREENWICH VILLAGE- A GREAT NY DESTINATION!
We arrived in Greenwich Village. I could easily live there or at least have a vacation home there. The village is made up of art, entertainment and food. Each street had people outside selling books, art work, and almost anything you can think of. Bleaker Street was really neat with The Chess Shop, a Vegetarian place and record stores. We walked until we reached The Bitter End where musicians make their mark on New York and then we headed back to our final destination, The Cowin Auditorium at Columbia University.
New York, NY is amazing. You should go there at least once in your life. Once you arrive smell the food and taste it, and then enjoy the hodgepodge of people that make up this incredible city.

Never been there but would love to go just once.
Ah, yes, first purchase: good shoes. A pretzel, of course... and Greenwich Village, where I lived for two years. Truly a city so nice they named it twice.
