Destination Truth TV Program Finds Best Evidence for Himalayan Yeti to Date

A Syfy Channel original series Destination Truth may have found some of the most convincing evidence for the existence of the yeti to date. They traveled to a very remote country called Bhutan and traveled to a nature preserve that is set up for the yeti in that country.

This program is hosted by a young adventurer named Josh Gates. I'll give Just as a brief introduction to the show in case you haven't seen an episode. This show seems to mix all of the best aspects of the typical supernatural proving shows with comedy, geography, and cultural anthropology. When you are watching this show not only will you be entertained but you will learn something even if the crew never finds anything. Generally Destination Truth interviews several locals about the myths surrounding whatever monster or paranormal creature they are looking for. One of the most interesting things is that you can see that these people genuinely believe these things to be real.

The Destination Truth team has found interesting evidence of the Yeti on two occasions. Both times they traveled to the Himalayan mountain range. The first time they took a cast of a large footprint that was considered by experts to be possibly credible.

The second time they traveled to the remote country of Bhutan to go to a nature preserve that was set up by that country's government specifically for the Yeti. There were several occasions throughout the show where they could see large animals on their scope but nothing concrete. During one of these encounters though Josh (the host) managed to find a large tuft of scruffy white hair.

At the end of every episode they return to their base of operations which is L.A. The novel event from this episode is that upon testing the tuft of hair for DNA identification the lab could not match it to any known species of animal. It is definitely a primate but they aren't able to tell what type. It didn't match any samples that they had in their DNA databank. One other thing that interests researchers is that this area of the Himalayas is not currently known to have any primate species inhabiting in it.

This is a very unique discovery because generally Yeti encounters are discovered more often to be encounters with Himalayan Brown Bears. This new evidence though was something that nobody expected to find.

A lot of times when the crew of Destination Truth find evidence out in the field and bring it back to be analyzed by local experts. Often the evidence is easily explained away by the experts.

It should be pointed out that even if a second sample is found or a second lab confirms the findings that an unknown primate does not necessarily mean that a Yeti has been discovered. It could be any kind of primate. That would still be quite a find. In an age where communication is so prevalent and human society has so thoroughly explored our planet's surface it is nice to know that new species are being discovered more often than most of us realize.
