More and more games are going into the open beta phase, allowing gamers to try out the game and give their input before the game is fully released. Destiny Online is one of those games still in the development phase, but in open beta. It is going to be fully released sometime in 2009, allowing more people to play. Right now there are only three servers: Panda, Penguin, and Koala. There are also five different classes you can play which are the general multiplayer role playing game classes: warrior, mage, taoist, swordist, and priest. Each have their own advantages and disadvantages of course and everyone has their own desires for their character.

When you choose the server and what class you want to play you can change the hair style of your character as well as the hair color, and the avatar, but that is it. You can also name your character of course, some games already name the characters, but it is more fun that you can name your own. You have five characters so you can have one of each of the classes and decide which one you like the best. When you enter the game you get tips and help, as well as 10 newcomers quests which help you learn the game and learn who to go to for different things. You also get the chance to pick a mentor, meaning someone of a higher level and understanding of the game to help you when you need it. After a while and a few quests you learn how to capture monsters to make them your pet. Then you have someone to help you fight and you can also name your pet. You need to keep him feed for health and loyalty.

Attacking is easy, all you need to do is left click the monster you want attack and then click again and your character will start to attack. To move you click like many other games, but if you hold the left button down and move, your character will keep moving in that direction so you don't need to keep clicking to keep it moving. You can autotrack things you are going to fight or non-player characters you are going to meet. Many different multiplayer role playing games has you talking to npcs over and over again as part of quests and that is one thing you do in Destiny Online. You also collect alot of things in the quests to learn something new. The map shows where the npcs are, but it can be difficult to understand how to really get to them. In some games you can click the npc you want and your character will automatically walk there, but not in Destiny Online.

It can be hard to figure out where to go, sometimes the quests tell you which nonplayer character you need to see, but don't tell you where they are. But after you play the game for a while and learn where they are it gets easier. This game is quest focused, meaning you do a lot of different quests to level up and gain knowledge about different aspects and different items that could benefit your character. When you go to learn different skills that your class can have, you can use your exp to learn them. Sometimes it can take a lot of your experience other times not so much.

Destiny Online is a fun multiplayer game to play, but the two dimensional graphics aren't what I expected. They seemed to childish. More and more games are going towards that genre to reach out to a younger generation, but at the same time older people are playing the game and causing issues that younger players don't need to be a part of. The colorations are bright and cheerful, and the monsters aren't that imaginative, there are ugly ducklings or grey mice or chipmunks. Not what you would expect from a massive online multiplayer game. I would suggest Destiny Online for younger gamers who are just entering the mmorpg genre, but not for the avid gamer looking for something new.
