Determined

C. Love
Born into this world alone
I owe nothing to any man
Those that were to have given
Took
To care for
Neglected
Abandoned instead of supported
Lied to in the place of enlightened
Evil and hatred replaced kindness and love
Forsaken
I fell prey
I called out
Unrequited
They looked the other way, pretended not to hear
Suppressed
Now I refuse to be silenced
Surviving
I relinquish inferred obligation
Embracing liberation
I give myself permission to believe in me
Even if unaccompanied
Dissecting self I find veiled significance
Motivation to persist
Expected to fail
I gain momentum
Determining my own destiny
Born alone, die alone
Between the two, stand-alone
...though I refuse to stand still

We can depend on no one but ourselve! Determination will pull us through almost anything! It is a perfect attitude to have and convey to others....bravo on this piece! Cathy

Nice poem - painful memories - good recovery. Remember, if you believe in a higher power you are never alone!
