Detroit Gears up for Thanksgiving Day Parade

Ann Garrett
Wayne, Michigan -- It's time to dust off your mittens and earmuffs in preparation for Detroit's Thanksgiving Day Parade. This is a timeless tradition of cold air, floats, clowns and of course the "Big Guy" Santa Claus.

Year after year people flock from the suburbs and city to sit along the parade route in hopes of seeing new and exciting floats. There's something about sitting along the route watching the colorful floats, listening to the thunder of a base drum from a marching band that is passing, the smiles on the kids faces as Santa passes on his float and of all the "togetherness" in one spot. I know the excitement that occurs because I marched the parade route when I was in my high school's marching band back in the day. It was cold, long and loud but it was FUN.

The City of Detroit gets a bad rap but we do have our traditions that are nothing like anything I have seen in any other town. This is one of the many big events that the City of Detroit holds annually and it is a favorite with people of all ages. Who doesn't like a parade after all?

The night before the big parade is the Hob Nobble Gobble. This is a black-tie event that helps raise funds so the tradition can keep on going. This event features live entertainment, carnival games and dining. It will be held on November 26, 2008 at the Michigan State Fairgrounds. For ticket prices and additional information please call 313.432.7831 to purchase your tickets or for more information.

Don't stay up partying the night away because the morning after the Hob Nobble Gobble is the big parade. This year the Detroit Thanksgiving Parade or better know as America's Thanksgiving Day Parade will be held on November 27, 2008. The parade begins at Mack Ave and ends at Campus Martius.

Tickets will be available on October 1, 2008:

VIP Grandstand Seat- $48.00 each

TV Zone Grandstand Seat- $28.00 each

General Admission Grandstand Seat $24.00 each

We would love for you to come to the City of Detroit and celebrate a timeless tradition with all of us. I am sure you will love it and your kids will love it too. You might even make this a family tradition and we wouldn't mind. The more people downtown the merrier we will all be.

So be sure to purchase your tickets, map out your spot, grab lots of blankets and hot chocolate and come downtown for a wonderful holiday tradition that the whole family can enjoy!!
