Detroit Lions Fire Team President Matt Millen

After Bill Ford Jr. (son of the team owner of the Detroit Lions) said that he would fire the struggling football team's president if he had the power to do so, Matt Millen, president of the Detroit Lions professional football organization, was fired. But this was a move that has been called for, and expected for quite some time now; and it is a move that has made many Detroit Lions fans happy. Not that anybody from Michigan expects the Detroit Lions to suddenly do well after firing their president in late September; but after an 0-3 start of the season, it's nowhere but up from here.

The Lions have made many changes in management and other senior positions, with little success. Since Millen took over for the organization in 2001, the team has had a league-low record of only 31 losses and 84 losses; more than any other team in this same seven year stretch of time.

Rod Marinelli, the current head coach of the Detroit Lions, is by no means safe, either. He is only the recent installment in a line of failed coaches, and his record is a bleak 10 wins and 26 losses since 2006. And while this announcement originally came during a bye week for the Detroit Lions, they have since lost their next match to the Chicago Bears by a score 34-7, as well.

All of this comes after a very successful preseason, in which the Detroit Lions were undefeated. Winning 4 games with 0 losses, the Lions took on opponents such as the New York Giants, the Cincinnati Bengals, the Cleveland Browns and the Buffalo Bills. This sparked early interest and hope in the team, but just as they've done in many seasons past, the Detroit Lions have simply failed to be productive in their first four matches of the season. Now that the games actually count for something, the team is unable to make plays on both offense and defense, and their all around team execution has been sloppy to say the least.

With 12 games left, the Detroit Lions organization still has time to turn this season around and make it a winning one - but in light of recent events, fans are once again left hopeless and many already consider this season a wash. Anything can happen however, and the diehard fans in Detroit and the surrounding areas still remain skeptical, just like they always will.
