Detroit Lions at Green Bay Packers Week 6 Review: Packers Unimpressive Despite Shutout

Green Bay Packers 26, Detroit Lions 0

The Green Bay Packers (3-2) complete another 0-16 feat into the Detroit Lions (1-5) history books as the Packers won their sixteenth consecutive game at Lambeau Field against the Lions dating back to 1991, 26-0. It was the nineteenth consecutive game the Packers had won in the state of Wisconsin against the Lions.

Week 6 Review of the Detroit Lions @ Green Bay Packers

The Detroit Lions were without Matthew Stafford and Calvin Johnson. Daunte Culpepper had a hamstring injury in the third quarter, so Drew Stanton had to come into the game. Offense, defense, and controversial coaching decisions led to what may result as the worst performance of the Lions this season.

The Green Bay Packers spent no time jumping on the Detroit Lions. The Packers got up 14-0 halfway through the first quarter. What is concerning is the Packers were not able to put up another touchdown after that, being held to four field goals.

Although the Green Bay Packers shutout the Detroit Lions with ease, the Packers looked as if they regressed in playing sound football. Penalties, sacks, fumbles, and a weak rushing game resulted in a shutout that was more of the Lions lameness than Green Bay improving from the bye.

Week 6 review of the Green Bay Packers offense

Aaron Rodgers continues to impress despite an offense line that officially looks hopeless. Aaron Rodgers goes 29/37 for 358 yards, 2 touchdowns, and one interception. The Green Bay Packers had 99 yards rushing, but most of it was in the fourth quarter running out the clock. Donald Driver had over 100 yards receiving on the game. The Packers had the ball for over forty minutes and 23 first downs to the Lions 10.

Unfortunately, the Green Bay Packers have not repaired the offensive line. Aaron Rodgers was sacked five more times this game, continuing his pace of being sacked 80 times. Aaron Rodgers is becoming similar to Ben Roethlisberger in holding the ball too long, always looking for the home run instead of the effective checkdowns.

The most troubling statistic for Green Bay is penalties. Thirteen penalties for 130 yards is about three games worth of infractions. Green Bay was also 1 for 5 in the red zone. If Green Bay wants to be playoff competitors, they must play with much more discipline.

Week 6 review of the Green Bay Packers defense

Albeit a shutout, it was against the Detroit Lions with a third string quarterback minus Calvin Johnson. The defense looked more comfortable adapting pressure with Atari Bigby back in the lineup, but his health cannot be counted on.

Week 6 injuries for the Green Bay Packers

Chad Clifton left the game with what looked to be another ankle or leg injury. T.J. Lang came in and looked effective as a run blocker. Do not be surprised if T.J. Lang is starting by the end of the season. Mark Tauscher was inactive and will be until he is ready to compete with Allen Barbre for the starting RT position.

Week 6 feats for the Green Bay Packers

Donald Driver recorded his 600th reception as a Green Bay Packer in the 3rd quarter, making him become the Packer's all-time leading receiver. According to the Fox announce team, it was the Packer's first shutout of the Detroit Lions since the 1940s. Mike McCarthy is now 7-0 against the Detroit Lions in his head coaching career. The Lions have lost sixteen straight games at Lambeau Field and nineteen straight in the state of Wisconsin.

What is next for the Green Bay Packers?

The Green Bay Packers will travel to the Cleveland Browns next Sunday afternoon. The Browns are one of the most inept offenses in the league, but do not underestimate that their defense may help keep them in the game, especially if Green Bay continues to play with the lack of discipline.
