Detroit Lions Vs Chicago Bears: Las Vegas Line & Pick Against Spread
Up & Coming Detroit Lions Will Look to Challenge Struggling Bears on Soldier Field
A Low Scoring Defensive Battle Between the Detroit Lions & Chicago Bears is on Tap
An improved Detroit Lions defense taking on a revitalized Chicago Bears defense should live up the NFC North divisions nickname of the "Black & Blue Division." Brian Urlacher returns to shore up some serious deficiencies in the middle of the defense but the outside corners and secondary still have question marks.
The Detroit Lions defensive line appears to be one of the most menacing in the division with key additions. Kyle Vanden Bosch and Ndamukong Suh already appear to work well together and could provide a much needed pass rush for the Detroit defense. The edge on defense goes to the Chicago Bears.
Running Games of both Detroit & Chicago Could Involve Short Passes in Flat
Kevin Smith is a solid runner but he tends to slow down and suffer injuries as the season progresses. Jahvid Best could be a welcome addition to the Detroit Lions back field. Best has been touted as the best running back in the NFL rookie class and he is also downgraded for his potential fragile nature. Best will be solid as a change of pace back for Smith in this game and he may break off a few big runs.
The Chicago Bears offense is excited to have a healthy Matt Forte in the new Mike Martz offense. Forte struggled through injuries in his sophomore season and this year will be his return to elite running back status. Forte will also have over 80 receptions out of the back field in Martz new scheme. This will take pressure off of Jay Cutler in the pocket and open up the field. The running game edge goes to the Chicago Bears.
Passing Games for Detroit Lions & Chicago Bears Are Both in Need of Help
Mike Martz as the offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears could be a crap shoot with Jay Cutler involved in the mix. Cutler must ditch his perceived attitude over the last few seasons and acquiesce to his new coaches dominant personality. If these two don't work well together it will show late in this first game.
Matt Stafford is going to be a top five QB in the NFL soon but in this game he will face heavy pressure. Stafford has two key receivers to look for in the flat, Tony Scheffler and Kevin Smith out of the backfield. If Stafford can find time to see Calvin Johnson streaking down the sidelines he may have an easy target there also. The passing game edge goes to the Detroit Lions in this game but it is close.
Detroit Lions vs Chicago Bears -6.5
Do the Chicago Bears have a team that has enough offense to cover 6.5 points? It will be an interesting game in Soldier Field this Sunday and if the Chicago Bears can control the clock they should be able to salt away the Detroit Lions late in the game. Take the Chicago Bears -6.5 points to cover the spread and defeat the Detroit Lions.
