Detroit Mayor Going to Jail

Today in Detroit, Judge Ronald Giles sentence Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick to jail for violation of his bond. He left the state and country to go to Windsor to take care of some "emergency" matters on July 2, 2008. He did not ask for permission first and the courts found out about it from the courts. According to the terms of his bond, he must notify the courts 48 hours prior to his travel plans out of the state of Michigan.

Kwame Kilpatrick's attorneys immediately appealed the ruling according to the Detroit News website. The appeal will not be heard until 9 a.m. tomorrow by Wayne Circuit Judge Thomas E. Jackson. Kwame will definitely be in jail over night and will be able to be bonded out once his $75,000 bond is paid. But first, he will be taken tot he 36th District Court Detention area where officials will decide where to hold him.

It will more than likely be in solitary confinement. According to WDIV-Channel 4's website, "Sheriff Warren Evans said at a news conference Thursday afternoon that Kilpatrick was going through the booking process and he will not be treated any better or worse than any other prisoner. However, Kilpatrick will have his own cell for his own protection, in an area designated for high-profile prisoners. Only the deputies guarding him will have access to Kilpatrick"

He went to Windsor and violated his bond just a day before he allegedly had an altercation with a Wayne County Sheriff detective. He should be charged soon with this allegation as well.

With more and more mounting evidence of the City of Detroit's Mayor's downfalls, it is increasingly obvious this guy has no business be in politics, let alone running the 11th biggest city in the nation. He uses the city of Detroit as his own personal playground, bulling people who get in his way and funding his own personal expenditures with the taxpayers hard earned money.

I am happy that for once a higher profile person is being treated some-what like an everyday person. Granted he will only probably spend less than 24 hours in jail, it is still sending the right message to the community, the law is the law. Now, if only we could get them Hollywood celebrities to be treated equally to all of us when they do something stupid like get a drunk driving or a hit-and-run.
