Detroit Red Wings Parade

The Detroit Red Wings beat the Pittsburgh Penguins in game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals with a score of 3-2. It is official; the Stanley Cup is now coming home, to Hockeytown!

The Red Wings have won 4 Stanley Cups in the past 11 seasons. 25% of the team's roster has been there for all four cups as well. This is the 11th time the Red Wings have won a Stanley Cup in the franchise's history.

To celebrate this wonderful victory once again, the city of Detroit is having a victory parade Friday, June 6, 2008. It starts at 11 a.m. at Hockeytown Cafe located downtown Detroit on Woodward Avenue. The Red Wings victory parade will proceed down Woodward Avenue and end up at Hart Plaza located on Jefferson Avenue, along the Detroit River. The Red Wing's parade will include a marching band and floats. Detroit's infamous Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick will watch the parade and speak to the team and the fans at the rally at Hart Plaza.

Parade goers should dress light and cool as the temperatures are going to be unseasonably hot on Friday. It will be near 90 degrees and very humid. What better way to stay cool than to sport a new Red Wings t-shirt or hat. Many area sport stores opened early today to welcome in the rush of Red Wings fan looking for championship merchandise. The big seller was the locker room hat, which sold out fast. Many fans are now on a waiting list to get these as they are on back order.
The parade is free to attend. Many of the road constructions projects that are going on in the area are wrapping up fast today or will be temporarily put on hold as the parade goes on. It should be a good time for everyone. There are plenty of things to do and places to go while you are downtown Detroit.
