Detroit Tigers 2007 Season Not a Disappointment

Deborah Kolka
As the 2007 Major League Baseball season draws to a close, I have read and listened to many news and sports reporters discuss apparent disappointment with the Detroit Tigers performance. I happen to disagree with these so called professionals views of the Tigers 2007 season and, as a fan who was fortunate enough to be able to attend each of the 81 games, I would like to share my opinion with them.

How anyone can seriously think of the Detroit Tigers 2007 baseball season as a complete disappointment? I' ld be lying if I said that I wouldn't have loved to see them in the post season again, but this year it just wasn't meant to be. In 2003, 04 and 05, I recall fans calling into local sports radio shows saying that all they want, is to come to a game knowing their team has a chance to win. In 2007 we had that. Fans called saying they just want a team that could compete. In 2007, we had that.

The 2006 season was nothing short of magical, the Detroit Tigers came together and played an almost injury free season, while other teams didn't have that luxury. Now, fans have been jumping on that bandwagon with the sports writers and commentators and whining about their team. I had the time of my life during that 2006 post season, I would have loved to experience something like it again. The fact that they didn't make it there, doesn't mean I am disappointed with their performance. After all, I was able to witness baseball history more than once this year.

The June 12, Justin Verlander's, no-hitter. Placid Polanco's errorless streak at second base. Ivan (Pudge) Rodriguez caught in his 2056th game to surpass Gary Carter, making him third on the all time game's caught list. How can we forget watching Curtis Granderson become only the third player in Major League history to make the 20-20-20 list. While I am not sure if history was made with the Tigers/Yankees game played in August, I do know that it is a game everyone in attendance will never forget. How could anyone forget being at a baseball game that ended at 3:35 AM?

The most remarkable memory I will have of the 2007 season, is watching Magglio Ordonez play. I liked Maggs before this season, I thought him to be one of our most valuable players. This year, though, he was nothing short of GREAT! How much fun to watch Maggie, as I call him, in his quest to win the biggest individual title in baseball, the Batting Title.

So, as the Detroit Tigers MLB season comes to an end, I just want to remind their fans not to be disappointed, but be proud of our team. They competed, they won more games than they lost (remember 2003?), and while I did witness them play a bit like a defeated team in the middle of August, they didn't give up.

As a Detroit Tigers Fan, I couldn't ask for much more. So I would just like to say one more thing, THANK YOU......Thank you Pudge, Thank you Shawn, Thank you Poli, Thank you Carlos, Thank you Brandon, Thank you C-Mo, Thank You Marcus, Thank You Curtis, Thank You Magglio, Thank You Justin, Thank You Kenny, Thank You Bondo, Thank You Nate, Thank You Chad, Thank You Virgil, Thank you Zoom Zoom, Thank You Jason, Thank You Jack, Thank You Bobby, Thank You Cameron, Thank You Ryan, Thank You Andrew, Thank You Timo, Thank You Todd, Thank You Fernando, Thank You Santiago, Thank You Gary, Thank You Omar, Thank You Wilfredo, Thank You Mike Maroth, Thank You Mike Rabelo, Thank You Jose and Thank You Jim Leyland and the coaching staff.

Thank You all for an entertaining and winning baseball season in Detroit.
