I believe the Detroit Tigers Organization handled the entire situation wrong also. Miguel Cabrera should have been benched the Saturday evening of the day that the Tigers President, Dave Dombrowski had to pick the first baseman up from the Birmingham Michigan Police Department. I have no idea what the team management was thinking when Cabrera was allowed to play, but someone with a reading of over three times the legal limit at 6 AM in the morning is still pretty worthless at 6 PM the same evening. How in the world did they make the decision to allow him to play? Being in attendance at that game, I had already been telling people I know, that it looked like the team was throwing the game. Too many strange plays seemed to happen that evening. Could it have been the team was also thrown by Cabrera's poor judgment?
Magglio Ordonez was benched earlier this year for poor performance and, still, after having improved dramatically the last two months of the season, continues to be pulled in late innings for someone who Jim Leyland thinks is a defensive improvement. Even a 4 for 4 performance couldn't keep Mags in a game for a final at bat. But we can put a hung over first baseman with extremely poor judgment and no respect for his teammates or the fans of the team, out on the field for what was the most important game of the season.
I earn $20K a year and spent 10% of that income on Detroit Tigers baseball this year, not including my post season tickets, which became all but a dream at the outcome of this past Saturdays game. Miguel Cabrera has a 150 million dollar contract with the Tigers. I have more respect for this team than he does. All I can say is that I am lucky I was not at the Townsend to see him drinking with the Chicago White Sox. I probably would have been the one in todays news because I would have been in his face. I just hope one of his teammates had the guts or gets the guts to get in his face before Tuesday's game and demands the play of his life.
Miguel Cabrera is the new Bobby Higginson in my book. If the Tigers somehow make it into the post season play, you will hear me boo that first and maybe only game at Comerica Park. If they don't make it, I will hold it in until opening day 2010 and every game I attend that Miguel Cabrera puts on that Old English D. He did everything he could do to lose the respect of this Detroit Tigers Fan. But, after this behavior, I doubt that means anything to him at all. Miguel Cabrera is not deserving to wear the Old English D and I hope he soon does not. He was obviously meant to be a Chicago White Sox Player.
