In a rough and battered economy sometimes it is best to stick with the candidate you know. To his credit Patrick so far has managed to keep the budget balanced and reduce a car insurance premium which was no small feat. As a voter and lifelong Massachusetts resident, I would like to see more progress in the areas of Crime Prevention and Public Safety.
So far I feel Deval Patrick has done a pretty good job governing the state and I think if re-elected he will continue to make progress in the areas of creating jobs and maintaining the budget. From what I have heard thus far from Charlie Baker, I am not convinced he can do a better job as governor. I've heard a lot of talk from him and just don't believe in what he is saying. Honestly, to me it sounds like he is willing to say just about anything if it is in direct opposition to Deval Patrick's position.
As a parent of a student in public schools, I like the idea of eliminating the MCAS testing system. Baker opposes this. The current system puts so much emphasis on this test that I feel, as a parent, takes away from productive learning time. When my child attended middle school, she had an extra hour per day added on to class time, devoted solely to studying for the MCAS. I feel this was a waste of time and resources.
It looks like Deval will govern for another term, the big question is what will it take for him to win? With the race boiling down to just days, it's hard to tell if Patrick will be in office another term. Personally, I hope he is. Massachusetts needs a governor with the vision and foresight Patrick clearly has. Baker could still come in at the last minute and win. I guess we will have to wait for the results of the election. As of right now, my money is on Patrick for a second term.
