Develop Your Intuition by Paying Attention to Your Feelings

Kelly Wallace
The first step in developing your intuition is to get in touch with your feelings.

No, I mean REALLY get in touch with your feelings! Most of us are so out of touch and out of tune with how we truly feel inside and why, that we walk around feeling numb or like a bag of jumbled nerves. Feelings are little flags that pop up to get our attention. Squashing them down or letting them take control just serves to add more stress to your life. Who needs that? Not only that, it blocks our natural gift of intuition. The next time a negative feeling shows up, take a look at it. What is it REALLY trying to tell you?

A simple guide when negative emotions surface is this:

If your throat feels tight or you find it hard to swallow, there may be something you haven't said that needs to be.

If your chest feels tight or heavy, there could be something you're longing for but it's missing from your life.

If your stomach feels queasy or tense, you may not be following your "gut instincts" or intuition about something or someone.

Next time you experience one of these sensations, take notice and take note. If you can correct it as quickly as possible, do so. If there's no way for you to, then try to let it go as best as you can.

Using your intuition more.

So often we know what we want or don't want. We get that "gut feeling", and yet we seldom listen to it. Small things like, "I should have taken that left turn a few miles back, just like my gut told me too. Now look, I'm stuck in traffic because of an accident!" Or things like knowing if the person you're currently seeing is right or wrong for you. You DO know, you may not like what you're hearing though, or you just don't trust it. Your intuitive muscles are flabby and the only way to get them into shape is by using them more.

How to do this?

A good exercise is to keep a tablet and pen with you. Every time you get some insight write it down. See if it comes true. Or, just for fun, make five or ten "predictions" for the day and see how many of those actually happen. In time you'll see that you get better and better at using your intuitive muscles!
