The 65 year old woman identified as Miriam Smith is now charged with cruelty to an animal for killing the canine. It was only a puppy and was the pet belonging to her nephew Andy Fowler. The aunt, Smith, described the "bad doggie" as a "devil dog" who chewed on her Good Book. She claimed that God told her to destroy the dog to protect neighborhood children.
Young Mr. Fowler called up the police this past Tuesday to report the actions of his aunt, Miriam Smith, how she had strung up his 1-year-old female pit bull affectionately named Diamond. Once the police force made it on scene, they did indeed discover the partly incinerated "devil dog's" dead body beneath a mound of dry grass. The misfortunate beast had been hung with an orange electrical cord coiled around its neck. A necropsy afterwards corroborated the event, that the tormented creature suffered death by strangulation through hanging.. Animal control experts conluded they could still smell the kerosene used to ignite the pup. Smith seemed to show no remorse for her acts of cruelty feeling it was justified to kill this "devil dog"
Miriam Smith has been depicted as a spiritually overzealous by her neighbors who say she requires a lot of help. The woman has been charged with animal cruelty and torture, and is now being confined at the Spartanburg County Detention Center in South Carolina.
No history of animal cruelty is apparent in Smith's past, but she evidently went beyond the limits of decency when she saw the "devil dog" chewing her Bible. There appears to be absolutely no rationality for this South Carolina woman to so savagely string up and putting to death this one-year-old "devil dog" puppy remembered by his owner as Diamond.
