Dexter Comes to Network TV

To Good to Be True

Storm
My roommate and I love the show "Dexter" that is shown on Showtime. There is no other show out there that is as clever and has such satisfying scripts. The ending of the first season was everything I wanted it to be and season 2 was just as great.

For those of you that haven't seen "Dexter" yet, you just don't know what you are missing. "Dexter" is the consummate anti-hero. He's a killer with a conscious.... well sort of. I single handedly made "Dexter" believers out of every person I could find. This is a detective show with a twist.

Blood spatter guys and gals are a whole different breed of people. They find dry humor in the oddest places. I worked for a law firm that had an interesting lady and she worked for the local L.A. District Attorney. She had her offices in our law firm and she would pick her messages up from me every day.

I remember when she explained what she did for a living. She was a little known specialist called a Blood Spatter Technician, and at that time (about 20 years ago) she was one of only a handful of Blood Spatter Techs in the US. I remember her telling me about a cruise that they all took every year to discuss blood spatter technology and various cases that involved the science thereof.

She would laugh, slap her knee, and tell me how much she loved these trips and how she was the only gal and she loved it. She said these guys really knew how to party. Wow, there's nothing like being a gal on a boat with a whole bunch of "Dexter" type men running around. Way to party! I remember at the time I thought that this was kind of a gross profession.

Then came the show "Dexter". Of course the first thing I did at the end of this last season (season 2) was run to the computer and see when they speculated the next season. Finding no news of Season 3 in production I had to wait for news. The writer's strike put a cramp in my style big time, because I knew that production was in writer's strike limbo.

I could not believe my ears when I heard that "Dexter" was going to be aired at 10PM on February 17, 2008. I had a hard time believing this one because I could not recall a premium cable show moving to Network TV during production. I have seen "Sex in the City" picked up in syndication but never a show that was still being actively produced. I was beside myself at the thought of new shows so soon!

When I looked into this I found out to my disappointment, that they were going to show re-runs of the show on Network TV as a way of dealing with the writer's strike. Bummer, no new shows. However I am thrilled that we will get a whole new crop of "Dexter" devotees. Let' hope the strike end soon so we can have our "Dexter" back with new shows.

Be advised though, these will be edited for language and graphic subject matter. I sure hope it doesn't change the storyline for new viewers. Damn those censors, but we must keep the FCC happy. Remember to check this show out, you won't be sorry.

  • I can't remember when a premium cable show has ever moved to Network while still in production.
Blood Spatter Techs are an odd goup with an even stranger sense of humor.

The curse words will be edited of course and it will remove some of the punch of Dokes' personality. Dokes saiys MFso frequently that it isn't even funny. In light of Jane Fonda using the "C" word there is going to be a shi*storm of controversy about profanity on network TV. One conservative here on AC BBQ'ed Jane because she dared to use the word. I write for another venue that doesn't require that we censor our language so much. I wrote an article about this and it can be viewed here. http://www.thisisby.us/index.php/content/i_just_love_to_cuss Thanks for your comments John and Paula

Of course, as you noted, they will be strongly edited, won't they? I wonder how much of the original material will be left in?

It is? I am so excited. I read every book in the series and had to watch the shows after that. Wow, network tv! That is really something. Thanks for the heads up!
