Season 3 ended with Dexter and Rita getting married and the police finding Miguel's dead body. If you need a refresher from the Season 3 finale, "Do You Take Dexter Morgan?" it will be aired at 8 PM (Eastern), directly preceding the 9 PM (Eastern) Season 4 premiere.
The title of the first episode in season 4 is "Living the Dream." We will see the old faces of Dexter (Michael C. Hall), his newlywed wife, Rita (Julie Benz), and his sister, Debra (Jennifer Carpenter). We will also see the return of Special Agent Frank Lundy (Keith Carradine). However, the biggest news is the addition of a new killer named Walter Simmons (John Lithgow).
In season 4, Dexter has everything he wants in a normal life in suburbia except the one thing he needs: a little time to kill. He is in unfamiliar territory as a husband and father of three, one of which is a newborn baby. Dexter struggles to keep up with his family, his job as a blood spatter analyst for Miami Metro Homicide and his secret existence as a serial killer. The baby keeps Dexter from sleeping and exhaustion is starting to its toll and he makes a few blunders. On top of everything, there have been two new murders in the Miami area that has everyone scrambling to capture the perpetrator. Everyone is surprised when FBI Special Agent Frank Lundy returns to work on the case. Lundy believes the murderer is a serial killer he has been chasing for decades, nicknamed "the Trinity Killer" because it kills in threes.
Award-winning actor John Lithgow is taking on one of his most intense roles as Miami's latest serial killer, Walter Simmons. To the public, Simmons seems like a normal man but he has been under side to himself as one of America's deadliest serial killers. Dexter is, of course, fascinated with his unique killing methods and avoiding capture for three decades.
I leave you with something to ponder. We all know that Dexter's brother was a serial killer, so maybe it runs in the family genes. Might Walter Simmons be another serial killer relative in Dexter's family? Is it just a coincidence that the Trinity killer has shown up in Miami where Dexter does his thing?
Tune in to the season 4 premiere of Dexter on September 27!
