Dexter Season 4 Recap: Episode 4.12: "The Getaway" - Season Finale

Season 4.12: "The Getaway" - Season Finale

Arthur knows who Dexter Morgan is now. That means that Dexter's family is no longer safe. Arthur wants him to simply disappear from his life and threatens him. When Arthur leaves, Dexter chases him, having to punch Quinn to get him out of his way first. Rita calls, wanting to set up a romantic weekend with her beloved husband to celebrate him hitting Elliott. Dexter gets distracted during his high-speed chase and knocks off the side view mirror of a guy parked on the road.

Dexter manages to catch Arthur and inject him so that he passes out. Unfortunately, he has been found by the guy whose car he hit. An altercation causes Dexter to get arrested. When sitting in jail, he has a conversation with Harry, and realizes this is not the kind of life that he wants. Unfortunately, they have called Rita, who gets him out of jail, but is now desperately wanting to know what is going on with Dexter.

Batista has figured out that Trinity abducted young boys prior to his murdering sprees.

Arthur woke up before Dexter could back to the van. He freaks out his family by demanding they give him all of the money they have on him. He is on the run.

Debra has inadvertently now figured out who Dexter is. She finds out the truth about her father, Dexter's mother, and that the Ice Truck Killer is actually Dexter's biological brother.

Dexter begs Rita to still have their belated honeymoon. He tells her to fly down ahead of him, to take a spa day, and to relax. He promises he is going to fly down to meet her when he is done at work. Astor and Cody are going to go with their grandparents to Disney. This way, he can get his whole family away to safety, and get Arthur before Arthur gets them.

Debra questions Scott, the boy whom Arthur abducted. She tells him how she had once been taken against her will, to help him open up. They get enough information to connect the abductions to the Four Walls projects. When they go after Arthur Mitchell, the cops storm the house. "Kyle" has been there, trying to get information about Arthur's whereabouts. He pretends that he is there working on the case.

Debra tells her Dexter the truth about his mother and his brother being the Ice Truck Killer. She has not yet figured out who Dexter truly is. He feigns surprise. As the two of them have a rare, yet brief, bonding moment, Dexter realizes that he has done good for her. That makes him different from Arthur, who has done nothing but cause pain and suffering for his family.

The FBI comes into Miami Metro and apologizes for not taking Lundy seriously. They also take over the case, including confiscating all of the hard work that Lundy and Debra put into the Trinity Killer case.

Dexter finally catches up to Arthur, who is on the run in his beloved convertible. While laying on Dexter's table, he talks about how he never took pride in what he did and blames Christine's suicide on her weakness. He accuses Dexter of not being able to control his demons and talks about how he prayed for his own to go away. He accepts that this is God's plan, and tells Dexter that it is already over. Asking for Dexter to turn on the turntable to hear his beloved song, "Vera," Trinity succumbs to Dexter's killing him.

Dexter is excited to go find his beloved wife. He even enjoys thinking that they are looking at the same full moon. He runs home to get his belongings, pausing to gaze lovingly at their wedding and family photos. He checks his voice mail, and has a message from Rita. When he tries to call her back, he hears her phone going off in the house, and Harrison crying.

Harrison is sitting in a puddle of blood. Rita is dead in the bathtub. Dexter blames himself.
