Episode 4.4: "Dex Takes a Holiday"

Rita is worried about Dexter after his bout smashing the neighbor's security lights, but thinks that time away may help. As in, she is taking the kids away to her cousin's wedding, while Dexter gets the house completely to himself. And now he can check out Officer Zoe Krueger. He finds her case highly suspect: her whole family was killed, yet she survived. The blood spatter analyst on that case didn't think the case added up. Dexter gets his information and begins the stalk his prey.

Lundy pulls Debra in even deeper to his Trinity quest, looking into bludgeoning cases. If this killer really is Trinity, the next kill will be a male bludgeoned to death. LaGuerta has had enough and revokes Lundy's visitor pass. Her mood is less improved by yet another article by Christine, claiming that the city is losing thousands of dollars every day due to fear of being murdered.

LaGuerta also wants to inform the Brass about her relationship with Batista, to make it official. She fears that by continuing to hide it, they are risking these big cases. Defense attorneys would love to distract a jury with an illicit affair amongst the investigating officers.

Dexter hangs out in his old apartment, reviewing all available information. This is the same apartment that he was to have gotten rid of when he and Rita bought their house.

He figures out that Zoe was wearing gloves when she was attacked, based on pictures in her case file. He visits her house during an Open House, under the pretext of looking to buy. He manages to find a piece of glove in the garbage disposal, thus making Zoe look even more guilty.

Trinity is preparing to attack. He hangs out by a bar, harassing someone into beating him up. He just keeps yelling, "It's all your fault!" Who is he seeing here?

Debra and Lundy realize that they are still madly in love with each other. Or, at least, Lundy hints to her that he can't concentrate with her around. Debra gets mad because she is in a committed, happy relationship and was trying to get over him. Nevertheless, when he calls her about some new Trinity finds, she comes running and they succumb to their desires.

Lundy literally has a run-in with Trinity, who recognizes him from Christine's latest newspaper article. Lundy sees something in his eyes that bothers him, and makes a recording of his observations. Meanwhile, Zoe has figured out Dexter's true identity, pulls him over, and threatens him. This just intrigues him even more, engaging his Dark Passenger. He starts playing her, so that he can finally catch his prize and fully relax, doing what he does best. Through his conversation with Zoe on her deathbed, Dexter comes to the realization that he doesn't want to lose his family.

As Dexter leaves his apartment, his father figure tells him to take care of the dripping faucet, to prevent any major problems. Lundy and Debra leave his hotel room to walk by the pier and make tentative future plans. Gunshots ring out. They both go down. Frank looks dead immediately and you hear a death rattle. Debra begs him to stay with her, then her eyes also close.
