Episode 4.5: "Dirty Harry"

Dexter is in a panic because Deb was shot. Without her, he will feel lost, as she has been a part of him for his entire life that he can remember. Everyone is in shock. But she pulls through, as the bullet went right through her.

Rita finds out that Dexter still has his apartment when the landlord calls to tell him that the apartment is flooded. She heads right over to the hospital and confronts Dexter about it and she is furious. He had told her that he had gotten rid of it, but she won't talk about it with Deb in the hospital. Once Deb is released, though, Dexter keeps skirting the issue, making Rita even more angry.

Anton comes to the hospital, worried about Deb. She confesses that she slept with Lundy and breaks up with him, even though he is willing to look past it. When she is released from the hospital, she has to move in with Dexter and his family. She has some physical pain from her gunshot, but more pressing is her emotional turmoil over losing the one man she has truly loved.

In other relationship news, Maria LaGuerta has disclosed to the higher-ups her relationship with Angel Batista, without discussing it with him first. Batista is upset, but lets it go. Then the higher-ups demand she transfer him to another department.

Dexter sneaks into Frank's hotel room and takes all of his notes on the Trinity Killer. He pours over them, assisted by his image of Harry, trying to put the pieces together. He again recognizes more of himself as far as ritual is concerned. He seeks the man who fits Lundy's descriptions, as he knows that Trinity killed Lundy and shot Deb.

Trinity is out shopping. He has landed himself a nice framing hammer, heavy and versatile. He is also working on scouting the new office building on the lot where the bludgeoning 30 years prior occurred, and scoping the men who work there.

Dexter is really forced into reevaluating his actions in his marriage when he meets Deb at the shooting location. She has a complete breakdown, admonishing Dexter for being stupid and lying to Rita. When he gets to his apartment, he finds Rita sitting in his bedroom. She had asked the manager, who didn't even know they were married, to let Dexter in. She scours the place, looking for clues as to why he would be lying to her. She finds nothing but the trunk that contains Dexter's tools. Only, it was locked and she didn't have the guts to break the lock. Dexter opens it for her so she can see Harry's belongings inside. Rita tells him to stay there for the night, and that perhaps when he is ready to come home and work on their marriage they can discuss it further.

Dexter takes advantage of having the night to himself to hunt down Trinity. He goes to the office building, and finally sees Trinity's face on surveillance video, as he watches Trinity bludgeon the coffee vendor to death. He also notices that Trinity is positioning the body so that it points in a specific direction. He finds Trinity leaving the premises in a van, and quickly gets into his car to follow him. What he finds when Trinity gets home surprises him. Trinity has a wife and two kids and lives in a nice house in the suburbs. He is just like Dexter.
