Episode 4.9: "Hungry Man"
It's Thanksgiving! Dexter is sitting outside Arthur's home, watching him be a complete jerk to his kids. He has decided that once the turkey is gone, so is Trinity. He meets up with Jonah, Arthur's son, and gets an earful about what life is really like. He then agrees to take "Kyle" back with him for Thanksgiving dinner the next day.
Dexter desperately tries to get Deb to come to his house on Thanksgiving, presumably to soften the blow of him having to leave for a while. He even takes a video of his kids begging her to come over, just to make her feel guilty. Deb agrees, and decides to bring Masuka with her.
Christine gets possessive of Quinn over Thanksgiving, begging him to come over for the holiday, instead of strictly working. She even shows up at the station, Thanksgiving dinner in hand, much to his dismay. She also corners Debra.
"Kyle" shows up at Thanksgiving dinner at Arthur's house, but the parents are not expecting him. Jonah forgot to mention it to his family. But, to maintain the facade, they welcome him in with open arms. Arthur appears to be in a good mood, so all is going well. Tradition is the theme of the day. Therefore, they must play football, not baseball. Family is key.
The DNA swabs went well. They were able to close three different cases. Unfortunately, one is for a woman whose widower is in a coma right now. Batista and LaGuerta go to the hospital to share the good news with him, even in his unconscious state.
Dexter and Arthur are in the garage when Dexter unearths a handmade wooden coffin. Arthur tries to blow it off, claiming he made it when he was in his "confused" state of mind. Jonah comes home with the beloved convertible that used to belong to Arthur completely beaten to a pulp. Arthur buys the story that Jonah discovered it that way in the morning when he was at his friend's house.
Debra figures out a pattern of Trinity's killers as being over school breaks.
"Kyle" goes out to chat with Arthur's daughter while she is trying to collect roses for the Thanksgiving centerpiece. She begs him to take her away with him. Meanwhile, Arthur breaks his son's finger for allowing the car to be beat up. Arthur's wife walks in on the daughter begging him to take him away. Rita calls to say that Cody fell through the roof of the shed. But then he realizes what Arthur has done to Jonah and is scared to leave them alone.
Batista and LaGuerta sneak a Thanksgiving rendezvous on the ocean. They profess their love for each other.
Rita kisses her neighbor, Elliot, after he initiates it. Masuka saw. He tries to leave, but Deb convinces him to stay.
Thanksgiving dinner at Arthur's house requires proclamations of for what they are all thankful. Everyone talks about being thankful for family and their house, but they forget to mention Arthur. Jonah blatantly says he isn't thankful for his father. When Arthur goes after Jonah, Jonah shatters Arthur's sister's urn against the wall. Arthur goes after Jonah and starts choking him. ""Kyle"" removes his belt and starts choking him with it, then takes off.
Dexter goes home and first checks on his shed. He then starts to question the true happiness of his family, and whether the facade is all it appears to be.
Quinn leaves Christine after spending a quiet Thanksgiving evening with her. When he leaves, there is a knock on the door. When Christine opens it, Arthur is standing there. She says, "Hi, Dad!"
