Dexter Season 5 Episode 2 'Hello, Bandit' Recap & Spoilers

Dexter season 5 episode 2 'Hello, Bandit' begins with Dexter contemplating his murder of the men's room loudmouth. He considers the stages of grief and decides anger was the only one he has time for. The serial killer thinks everything will get better when he's back with the kids. Unfortunately for Dexter, that belief doesn't prove to be true. Furthermore, the FBI and Quinn are hunting his alias, Kyle Butler.

Episode 2 Clears Dexter with FBI

Dexter goes into his meeting with the FBI, where they admit he didn't kill Rita. The feds bring up the fact that Dexter was in the house as part of the Trinity Killer investigation and wonder what he did to make Arthur Mitchell target his wife. Dex ineptly offers the "because he's a serial killer" excuse.

What was he supposed to say? "Oh, that was just a fellow serial killer worship/stalking gone thing."

Probably wouldn't have went over well.

Dexter catches a break when LaGuerta informs him he will be taking at least a week off. Then she unknowingly sucker punches him with the information that Kyle Butler is the department's only lead.

Meanwhile, Angel picks up Laguerta's open mail and discovers she has been socking away money, $2,000 at a time.

Dexter Season 5's First Target

While renting a moving truck, Dexter notices blood and can't help but rent it. Packing up his family's previous residence gets even more trying when neighbor Elliot comes by with mail, condolences and offers of help. Dexter picks up a large knife from the floor and considers gutting the man who dared to kiss his wife. He manages to resist.

Dexter is still convinced he will be a good father, but the blood on the moving truck bed calls to Dexter and he tests it. In the middle of the night. With baby Harrison as company. But it's okay, as Dexter makes up a fairy tale about it for the baby. Ogre, princess, blood and all.

Harry appears, chastising his son for being out that late. Dexter assures him of the importance of taking care of his personal needs to. He thinks it will keep him in control.

Harry just emphasizes that importance of the kids, letting Dexter know that they are not only his responsibility, but possibly also his salvation.

Dexter discovers an animal control worker rented the moving van and that the blood is human. He stages a meeting over a dead raccoon and deems the man, Boyd Fowler, interesting and potentially evil enough to stalk.

Miami Metro Gets a New Case

All of Dex's police pals are called to a Venezuelan neighborhood crime scene featuring a decapitated head. Angel asks Quinn a hypothetical about the savings account. Misunderstanding and thinking the money is Angel's, Quinn tells him the money is his and LaGuerta has no claim to it.

Quinn offers to let Debra crash at his place, but she's still in denial that they ever slept together. A female cop form the neighborhood thinks the beheading, missing eyes and tongue, is related to a cultish gang, La Muerta.

Deb thinks it's mob related, but changes her mind when the cop is right about a machete being the murder weapon. Later they find the woman's boyfriend shot in the head.

Quinn continues to press Deb, as they look at an apartment for Dexter. She does eventually agree to stay the night with him, but alone on the couch. Her apartment is overcrowded by Dexter and the kids.

Dexter Stalks His New Target

Dexter has a nice family moment with Aster and Cody over triangle pancakes, but it is quickly derailed when Aster sets too many plates and grief causes her to yell at Dexter.

Dexter goes to his default feel good routine, which is stalking a vile human who deserves to die. He breaks into Fowler's home, discovering dead animals, OCD lined up cans and a lock of blond hair.

Following Fowler where he is dumping barrels is interrupted by the news that the kid's didn't go to class after grief counseling. Dexter finds them staring at the bathtub their mother was murdered in. He agrees that he should have listened to Aster, but she doesn't care. In her grief, she blames Dexter for ever making them think life could be good and demands to live with her grandparents. Cody doesn't want to go, but Dexter is convinced brother and sister shouldn't be split apart, even if it means losing his link to humanity.

Debra calls Quinn to admit they had sex. Angel confronts his wife about the hidden money and goes out drinking when she basically says it's because he is financially irresponsible. He then punches out a guy for talking smack about her.

Dexter is back in his hunting happy zone, and goes back to check out the contents of the barrel Fowler dumped. Sure enough, it contains a dead blond. A look around shows many barrels.

Dexter Season 5, Episode 3

Previews for the next episode of Dexter show Quinn investigating the Kyle Butler angle. Dexter knows a kill won't bring Rita back, but hopes it brings him back to normal.

Harry is worried Dexter will get sloppy and make mistakes. Looks like the hallucination will be right, since Dexter gets his needle in Fowler's neck, but also gets shot in return. (It looked like by a tranquilizer gun.)
