Dexter Season 5 Episode 8 Has Dex & Lumen 'Take It' To Another Level
Will Dexter Find Peace with Lumen in Season 5 or Be Hurt Again?
The Good Guys?
On 'Dexter,' the good guys do bad things and the hero is deadly. The bad guys enjoy his killing table and become a blood slide memento.
Episode 8 opens with Dexter stalking his new prey, motivational speaker/murderer Jordan Chase's (Jonny Lee Miller) personal security chief/fellow murderer, Cole Harmon (Chris Vance). Dex keeps an eye on Harmon, as the crowd chants, "Take It!"
Lt. Maria LaGuerta (Lauren Velez) is ambushed by reporters outside the Miami Metro police station. They relentlessly grill her on the night club shooting debacle and imply she should lawyer up. Not one to take the fall, even for her own mistakes, Maria blasts her detectives for it. Masuka (C.S. Lee) lewdly, but accurately deducts that Maria is going to sacrifice one of their own.
Detective Debra Morgan (Jennifer Carpenter) shares with partner and live-in lover Joey Quinn (Desmond Harrington) that she doesn't feel bad for killing Carlos Fuentes at the club. Maria's husband, Detective Angel Batista (David Zayas), has yet to write up his report on the incident.
Dexter Fascinates Chase
Lumen (Julia Stiles) calls Dexter, warning him that Harmon is an ex-marine, dishonorably discharged for harming a superior. Harmon introduces himself and requests that Dexter meet Jordan Chase.
Chase, who preaches obtaining goals by getting in touch with your primal source, is fascinated by Rita's death and the Trinity Killer. He wants to study how Dexter's primal self is coping with the loss of his wife.
Lumen's Ex-Fiance Arrives
Lumen receives a startling phone call from her ex-fiance Owen and discovers he is in Miami and wants to meet. Dexter presents her with a serial killer shopping list of items to bring to the conference hotel kill room.
At the hotel, Dexter has rented the room adjoining Harmon's. He breaks in ans plots the take-down scenario.
Lumen meets with Owen and finds out he has purchased world tour tickets for the both of them. That might be a perfect way to escape from the psychological upheaval her rapists and captors induced, if she hadn't already embarked on retributional murder therapy.
Maria falsely tells the press that Deb was responsible for the nightclub shootings and suspends her without pay.
Deb won't go down without a fight.
On her way with the supplies, Lumen hits suspended officer Liddy's car. Obviously planned by him, as Quinn is paying the dirty vice officer to investigate Dexter and Rita's murder. Liddy spots the plastic in her car.
Lumen tells Dexter about Owen and he tells her he wants her to go if she wants to go. She doesn't and he happily prepares the room with his new partner. She questions him hanging other victims' pictures and realizes the kill isn't just about her and that Dexter has been doing this for awhile.
Hearing a woman screaming from Harmon's room, Dex hurries to check it out. Discovering it was just a little welcome bondage, he returns to find Lumen on the floor, hands over her ears. Dexter gently places his hands over hers and she eventually sleeps. A new bond is forged between them.
New Murder Plan
Harmon's screamer spent the night, leading Dexter to come up with a riskier plan. He is going to take the security chief out on his rounds.
Everything goes wrong when Chase calls Dex onto the stage, asking him relate how he found Rita. Lumen leaves the hotel room, but runs into Harmon. She tries to call Dexter and makes it back to the room, but her attacker busts through the door.
Lumen grabs the M-99 syringe to sedate him, but loses it. Harmon strangles her until Dexter rips him off her and returns the favor.
Harmon awakes wrapped in plastic, Dexter and Lumen standing over him. Even with a knife at his throat, he won't reveal who Lumen's other attackers were. At Lumen's nod, Dexter stabs him.
Dexter opens up to Lumen, telling her about his mother and Rita. Hoping for acceptance, he hands her Harmon's blood slide. As she takes it, Dexter wonders if Lumen is the one who will make him whole.
Getting Rid of Evidence
Deb discovers the female police officer who helped her on the Santa Muerte case backed Maria's story. A move that may be to Maria's detriment, because it makes Angel decide to tell the truth and back Debra.
Dex checks out of the hotel, rolling out a luggage cart filled with dismembered body parts. Chase stops him and says the exact phrase Lumen remembered from one of her attackers. "Tick, tick, tick. That's the sound of your life running out."
Lumen's ex-fiance gives up on her as she is contemplating her new blood slide. She chooses going on the boat and watching Dex throw out body bags over a world tour.
It's strange that Dexter doesn't have her wear gloves when he hands her a bag to toss out. But it turns out they have bigger problems. Liddy, having shook down Quinn for more money, is taking pictures of everything.
