For those who are unfamiliar with the show, "Dexter" chronicles the life of Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall), a Miami blood spatter analyst with a killer hobby. Literally. Dexter is a serial killer. However he only kills those whom society would have likely killed anyway. Dexter has a code taught to him by his Miami Police Officer foster father, Harry Morgan. Harry found Dexter as a toddler after his mother had been horrifically murdered in front of him. Recognizing Dexter's tendencies Harry taught Dexter to vet his kills. They have to be killers themselves, and they have to have slipped through the cracks.
When Season Four opens, Dexter has married girlfriend Rita Bennett (Julie Benz) and they have had a baby together. Along with Rita's two kids by an earlier marriage, Astor and Cody, Dexter and Rita are living the American Dream.
Dexter's sister, Deb (Jennifer Carpenter) is a cop who has finally achieved her dream and become a fully fledged detective. Life is good for the Morgan's.
Enter the Trinity Killer. A serial killer who has been killing in three's around the country for the last thirty years. Walter Simmons is Trinity and is played superbly by John Lithgow, in a dark turn.
In a return to a character he portrayed in Season Two, is Keith Carradine as FBI Special Agent Frank Lundy. He is tracking the Trinity Killer and asks Dexter to be his "man on the inside."
In a scene from the trailer for Season Four Dexter seems surprised to see Lundy.
"Dexter!" Lundy says. "How's my favorite blood spatter analyst?"
"How's my favorite serial killer catcher?"
The return of Lundy should prove to be interesting for Deb Morgan. In Season Two while tracking the Bay Harbor Butcher they had an intense relationship that ended when Lundy left Miami.
What will be interesting this season will be watching Dexter juggle not only his day job as a blood spatter analyst for the Miami PD, with his night time activities, with adding being a new daddy into the mix. There is one scene in the trailer where Dexter has fallen asleep in his car, and is accosted by a cop.
A development outside the set adds a new dimension to the show. Stars Michael C. Hall, and Jennifer Carpenter got married on December 31, 2008. It has to be strange playing your wife's brother on the show. OF course they had been playing brother and sister before they started dating.
"Dexter" was nominated for 3 Emmy Awards this past Season, For Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series (Jimmy Smits - who was delightfully nasty) and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series (Michael C. Hall)
Dexter plays on Showtime on Sundays, and returns September 27th, 2009.

Post a CommentYep, me neither. Who would have thought that a serial killer would be a positive charactger on a television show.
By thy way, I saw some Q & A online form a Convention, and Michael C. Hall said that the baby's name is Harrison. Named for Harry Morgan.
