Diabetes and Diet

Diabetes is a disease of the gut not the blood. This is why gastric bypass always cures diabetes. After years of a bad diet accentuating processed foods, sucrose and simple carbohydrates the gut forgets how to properly process food. It starts in the stomach and ends in the upper intestine, by the time bulk reaches the lower intestines your blood sugars are through the roof.

The profitable pharmeceutical treatments of the disease trick the liver and pancreas into producing excess insulin or excess insulin is injected directly into the body. In prediabetic patients the constant exposure to bad foods tricks the gut into over producing insulin. Eventually the insulin becomes ineffective and the gut simply absorbs all the sugars directly into the blood supply rather than converting the sugar into the fats that nourish the body. The reason insulin becomes ineffective is that if the body was flooded with properly functioning insulin we would go into shock and die. Diabetes is a metabolic solution to death by insulin exposure. Sugar in the blood acts like sand in a solution, veins, nerve endings and your metabolism is scoured, weakened and opened up to deathly consequences. Infections bloom, sepsis occurs, kidneys fail and blood vessels rupture. You can either have your guts ripped out (gastric bypass) or relearn how to eat, cure your gut and go about living. Diabetes is a chronic state of dying.

To cure this disease get your gut into shape. First work on the stomach because it is the gateway to all digestion. If you have acid reflux or an acidic stomach fix it. Reduce sugars, stop taking acid neutralizers, take vinegar, eat yogurt, change the stomach chemistry. Take a daily dose of intestinal flora. Eat sour foods, kimchi, fermented vegetables (sauerkraut), good cheese, cruciferous vegetables and sour doughs.

The diabetes industry has all sorts of impossible diets. Eat eight small meals every day, don't eat fruit because it has fructose, don't eat onions or corn because they have sugars and avoid all carbs. The body, the metabolism needs protein, complex carbohydrates, fiber and good fats. Find a good high fiber whole grain bread or learn to make one (recipe to follow), eat beans (not canned), drink beer (good nutritious beer), learn how to stir fry, eat soups, snack raw.

On the don't side; no fast food, no processed food, no soft drinks or lite beer. Learn how to cook and enjoy simple, tasty meals. Exercise an hour every day. Make lots of love. Tell your friends, get them involved.

I also believe in fasting. A body should know the feeling of true hunger everyday. Don't ever eat on the clock. Eat when you are hungry. Don't assuage this feeling with empty snacks. Wait. Eat a well planned meal. Eat until your hunger is satisfied, not satiated.

And when you get your gut in order have a nice piece of cake.

Multigrain bread recipe:

6 oz Red River multi grain cereal

20 oz. hot water

3 cups all purpose flour

1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour

4 T honey

4 T melted butter

1/4 cup sour dough starter

1 t quick yeast

2 t salt

3/4 cup hulled pumpkin seeds

1/2 cup rolled oats

Let the cereal bloom in the hot water then cool to 100 degrees F. Add the flours and mix for one minute, add the honey, butter, sour dough and yeast mix till a ball forms. Knead by hand for five minutes then add the hulled seeds and continue to knead until the seeds are incorporated. Let the dough rise to double in a greased bowl. Re-knead and form two loaves. Roll loaves in the oats. Put into greased loaf pans and allow to rise for about 1 hour. Bake at 375 F. for 45 minutes. Cool!A
