Lea Barton
Do you have diabetes? Many people are trying to avoid taking expensive prescription medications that have side effects and can damage their liver in the long run. People with diabetes often turn to holistic methods of treatment that can naturally treat their diabetes in order to avoid future problems with medications. More doctors are also recommending natural lifestyle changes for regulating diseases whenever possible. Why take prescription medications unless it is absolutely necessary?

In order to keep diabetes under control there are a number of things that can be done.

1. Talk with a doctor about a daily exercise routine. Don't start or stop exercising without the consent of a physician. Discuss how physically active a person should be, what types of activities people enjoy doing, and how to slowly work up to an exercise regiment that can be follow through with every day. Make sure to make plans do something enjoyable when exercising so that it won't be so easy to give it up.

2. Eat right and eat a balanced diet to handle diabetes. Talk to a nutritionist in the doctor's office to see what type of diet is the best to be on and how to use a diet in order to control diabetes. Make sure to discuss any concerns with the nutritionist and work out any food favorite problems that get in the way. Also talk about when to eat meals for optimal health. Eat on a schedule at the same time every day in order to properly keep track of blood sugar levels throughout the day; diet is crucial in maintaining consistency.

3. Test yourself at home. There are testing supplies that can be purchased, and some insurance companies will even deliver testing supplies straight to home which is very convenient. Physicians can explain how to do the tests and tell people with diabetes when the best times to test are. Make sure to test yourself at the same time everyday to keep progress reports consistent so that a doctor has a valid record to monitor blood sugar levels.

4. Don't cheat. Don't decide to sneak something into a diet that is not supposed to be there, or take some time off from an exercise routine, this is only hurting yourself. There may be an event coming up like a vacation, wedding, or birthday; it's hard to avoid these events, but planning ahead can make food temptations easier to manage. Discuss it with your doctor or nutritionist to see what can be eaten on your diet so that there are no feelings of being left out, and how to handle the situation so that it doesn't get out of control as you work hard to balance diabetes and diet.

Once a pattern of eating right has been created, at regular times everyday, and persons with diabetes are staying physically active, they will begin to see and feel a huge difference. They will have more energy and be all around healthier. Also keep track of the scale and enjoy the benefits of weight loss that come with a new lifestyle and diet. Patients with diabetes will see that their new habits not only keep them off of the medications, but also give a healthier overall outlook on life.

These strategies can help any diabetic patient to manage this chronic condition and simply live, but live better.
