Dieticians recommend that diabetics eat smaller portions more frequently throughout the day in order to feel satiated and keep the metabolism boosted. Instead of eating three meals a day, eat six times a day, but much smaller amounts of food.

• Test diabetic blood sugar levels at home. Personal testing supplies can be purchased and a doctor can help find the testing kit needed in order to monitor insulin levels at home. Make sure that testing occurs at the same time everyday. It is usually recommended that diabetics test yourself before eating and at bedtime in order to keep a good record of blood sugar. Then diabetics can take their records to a doctor's office and he or she will be able to adjust the diet or exercise according to their evaluation of the test results.
