The latest news is that there is a link between bra size and diabetes.
According to evidence from a study involving more than 90,000 women, carried out in Canada, even after adjusting for lifestyle factors like obesity and a lack of exercise and including any family history, even women who were otherwise fit but wore larger bra sizes had a greater risk of developing diabetes than those who wore a smaller size.
The study was an analysis of date collected as part of the Nurses' Health Study II, which started in 1989 and covered the development of type II diabetes in women averaging age 38 over 20 years. The woemn filled out questionnaires every two years. They were asked if they had been diagnosed with diabetes in the time between questionnaires. Any women who were pregnant when they received their diagnosis were excluded, as gestational diabetes is usually not permanent.
The researchers were not able to rule out the possibility that the link between diabetes and bra size might reflect an overall weight gain or increase in waist circumference, even though the women were not obese.
After such factors as age, number of children, amount of exercise, smoking, etc., were adjusted for, the women with larger bra sizes had a 30% to 80% increase in risk of developing Type II diabetes, depending on cup size.
Based on this study, researchers say "a large bra cup size at age 20 may be a predictor of type 2 diabetes in middle-aged women."
Since there's not a lot most women can do about cup size short of surgery or losing weight all over,it seems the main purpose of this information is sothat women with large cup sizes can know they are at risk and get tested regularly for diabetes. They can also eat a healthy diet, make sure they stay physically active, stop smoking, and take other steps to lead a healthy lifestyle in order to prevent diabetes from developing.
