Diabetes Nutrition- 5 Kitchen Essentials for Healthy Eating Anytime

Shaw Belt
If you have Diabetes, then you probably are already aware that your diet is an essential part of managing Diabetes. By eating healthy, well-rounded meals that are loaded with nutrients, you can help to stay trim, keep your blood cells functioning optimally, and keep your heart healthy. Here are five essentials that all Diabetics should have on hand to help them make healthy meals in a flash:

Grains

Grains should be an integral part of your daily diet. Grains contain carbohydrates that can give you energy and sustain your body's functions. There are many types of grains that you should keep on hand, including pasta, rice, oats, and more. Grains can be tossed into any soup or other cooked meal to provide some healthy carbohydrates and nutrients. (Source: Runner's World)

Eggs

Eggs are loaded with protein, so they will help you to stay full longer and provide your body with important elements that will help your cells function properly. Protein also builds and restores muscles, along with other necessary body functions. Plus, they're inexpensive, easy to make, and can be added to many foods.

Beans

For anyone trying to maintain a healthy diet, beans are an essential kitchen staple. Beans are not only loaded with healthy proteins that will keep your body functioning healthily, but they are easy to prepare and make a great side-dish. Beans are also loaded with healthy carbohydrates, which will give you that energy you need to stay active throughout the day.

Veggies

Many vegetables can stay unfrozen for many weeks, including carrots, celery, potatoes, and more. These vegetables are loaded with vitamins and minerals that will help your body function optimally. Plus, they are great for snacks or as a side dish to any meal. Most vegetables can also be boiled or cooked with other foods, such as grains or beans, for a well-rounded meal.

Sugar-free desserts and candy

Just because you have Diabetes doesn't mean that you have to deny yourself when you have a sugar craving. It's normal for people to get cravings for sweets from time-to-time. Ideally, you will only consume sweets once in awhile. After all, by limiting your sweets, you will train your taste buds to not crave sugar-rich foods. However, for those times when you do have an urge for something sweet, it can be best to satisfy the craving rather than make yourself feel punished by denying the craving. Have some sugar-free desserts and sweets on hand for those special occasions when you want a little something sweet. Sugar-free treats give you a sweet taste without the dangerous sugar-rush of full-sugar desserts.
