First it is helpful to know what diabetes is in order for you to understand better this disease. Diabetes occurs when our body is unable to process the carbohydrates we ingest. We need energy so our bodies can function, and we get this energy from our food. The digestive systems process the food and extract carbohydrates that are then destined to supply the energy needs of your body. The problem is that when you have diabetes, your digestive system is unable to process foods completely and carbohydrates, which contain glucose, end up accumulating in your system raising the glucose level in your blood.

This turns out to be a problem because now your body has to get rid of the sugar excess one way or another. This also causes you to feel weak and be tired all the time, because your body can't produce enough energy to satisfy your needs. When the condition worsens, you also end up with dying tissue in your limbs which needs to be removed by amputation.

One way to detect the presence of diabetes is by the smell of your urine. If it smells a little sweet, chances are you have diabetes. There are other symptoms like excessive sweating, thirst and urination, generalized fatigue and tiredness, variations in appetite, blurring vision, headaches, fainting, or digestive problems that serve as early warnings, and by being aware of them, you can go immediately to the doctor and make him check your sugar levels.

Symptoms for diabetes type II can include unusual changes on body weight, either loss or gain, this can be due to the unavailability of your body to process the sugar from the foods you eat or high levels of sugar in your body. By getting a blood test you can be sure if you have diabetes or not because these symptoms may be also caused by hormonal changes occurring normally during the menopause in women. Another possible symptom is hypoglycemia. This is a condition characterized by an abnormally low glucose blood level.

By being aware of the symptoms early, you can have an advantage in fighting this disease. Be sure to go to your doctor so he can determine if you have diabetes and choose the proper treatment for you as soon as possible.
