Desitin
Desitin is perhaps the most well known of the diaper rash cream brands. You can find it in a purple and white tube and it generally sells at an average price. So is it the right one for your baby? One thing to consider about diaper rash creams is their ability to stick to your baby's bottom rather than wipe off onto their diaper. Desitin is very good when it comes to sticking to baby's bottom. In fact it can be hard to wipe completely off which can be a big turn off. However if your baby suffers from a minor to mild case of diaper rash Desitin works fairly well. Though I wouldn't recommend Desitin as a must buy diaper rash cream.
Boudreaux's Butt Paste
You may get a giggle out of the name of this diaper rash cream. It can usually be found in a yellow and white tube with a cartoon baby as the logo. This diaper rash cream is likely just as well known as Desitin, but does it work? I found that it was average in performance just as its well known competitor's diaper rash product. Nothing fancy and no miracles ever happened when I used it for my baby. You will find many moms who also rave about this particular brand of cream. A 2 oz. tube typically retails between $4.99 and $6.99.
Aquaphor Baby Healing Ointment
Aquaphor isn't necessarily advertised as a diaper rash cream or ointment but it is listed as one of the product's purposes. I bought a tube for my baby when she got a mild case of diaper rash and Desitin didn't seem to be working. It did seem to help the rash heal but I found that this product was more suitable for preventing a diaper rash rather than curing it. While the product can be a bit pricey it is multipurpose and can be great for treating dry and cracked skin on other parts of the body. More purpose means less waste.
Dr. Smith's Diaper Ointment
I have read countless praises from other moms about this diaper rash cream. It's not as sticky and hard to clean as Desitin and it seems to work wonders for more severe cases of diaper rash. In fact it can even do wonders for baby acne, helping to clear it up within days. You can find a 2 oz. jar being sold for $5.99 online which is not a bad price for this miracle diaper rash cream.
Nature's Baby Organics Diaper Cream
If you are in the market for an organic diaper cream this one just may fit the bill. It is fragrance free and free of preservatives which will keep mom happy. You can find a 4 oz. tube here for just $11.95 which is comparable to the competitor's prices. With a decent price tag and a natural list of ingredients does this product make a good purchase? Will it heal your baby's diaper rash? I bought a tube of this from my local Target to give it a try on my baby's bottom when she got a mild rash one day. After a day I could already see an improvement. Not a bad buy in my opinion.
A+D Diaper Rash Cream
When it comes to generic average priced diaper rash creams A+D is one of the best. I had problems with diaper rash for my second child until I switched to using A+D. A+D diaper rash cream seemed to clear up my baby's diaper rash in a few days. I am not alone in my praise either as you can find similar praises from other moms online as well. You can find it in a blue and white box with yellow lettering. The prices are competitive with other average priced diaper creams which means it won't break your budget.
When it comes to diaper rash creams you can read and listen to suggestions but remember that each baby's skin type is different and may react differently to different brands and ointments. After some experimenting you are sure to find something that will work for your baby. Also remember that when it comes to diaper rashes you will need to do more than just squeeze some cream or ointment on it.
