Diary of a Wimpy Kid Book Series: Free Stuff

Jeff Kinney has just been named one of Time Magazine's top 100 most influential people. Who is Jeff Kinney and what has he done to merit such a nomination? Jeff Kinney is the author of the wildly popular Diary of a Wimpy Kid book series. Diary of a Wimpy Kid is Greg Heffley's personal journal of life as a middle school kid. What makes these books so oft-read? First the series is a sort of graphic novel. The pictures are simple and poke fun at everyone in Greg Heffley's young life, including himself. We can all identify with Greg's harried mother and easily annoyed father. We can laugh at Greg's tuned-out teenage brother Roderick and his lisping, ever-innocent younger brother Manny. Kids love the all-too-realistic situations Greg finds himself in. Greg is the perfect protagonist because he is not perfect and neither is his family.

The Diary of a Wimpy Kid series have a certain je nes ce quoi that is unilaterally appealing to kids. I have met no child in my travels who doesn't love the series. Jeff Kinney's series Diary of a Wimpy Kid has grown to four books with the release of Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw. The series also includes: Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Roderick Rules, Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Greg Heffley's Journal and Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Do-it-Yourself Book.

Ihaven't found too many free printable activities based upon The Diary of a Wimpy Kid, I did discover that it is possible for children to read the entire first book, The Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Roderick Rules at FunBrain.
FunBrain is the homepage for the beloved Poptropica online gaming site.

Edhelper has created two word wall vocabulary units based upon the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series.

Teacher Vision has developed a whole free printable literature unit based upon the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series also. Teacher Vision has writing activities, reading extensions, text to text questions, text-to-life connections and text to self connections based upon the book series.

For a small fee of $.99, Teachers Pay Teachers has a printable three page test based upon the first book in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series.

Jeff Kinney has hit the success jackpot with this series, and I wish all the best as we await further the adventures of Greg Heffley. I got the students to draw their 'wimpy' self. That's our welcome wall now...portraits of the wimpy class. It was a hit with both kids and parents

Mar, checked these books out. They're awesome. Although no kid wants to admit to being a wimp, Jeff Kinney does it with aplomb. Good catch and excellent review.
